Job description

Job Title: Lot and Inventory Specialist

Reports To: General Manager

Position Type: Full-Time | Hourly

Position Overview

The Lot and Inventory Specialist plays a critical role in supporting daily dealership operations by keeping the lot organized, safe, and customer-ready. This role handles the physical flow of trailers on the property — from receiving and inspection to staging, presentation, and delivery support. The Specialist ensures accurate inventory placement, professional lot appearance, and smooth coordination with sales and service teams.

This is a hands-on, outdoor role for someone who takes pride in keeping the operation clean, efficient, and running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receiving and Inventory Accuracy
  • Receive incoming trailers, confirm VINs, and document any damage or discrepancies.
  • Verify models, colors, and options match delivery paperwork.
  • Maintain an accurate lot map and update unit placement as inventory moves.
  • Conduct regular VIN sweeps and weekly lot audits to ensure accuracy.
  • Lot Operations and Presentation
  • Safely move, park, and stage trailers using forklifts and yard equipment.
  • Maintain consistent spacing, alignment, and display standards across the lot.
  • Install and maintain price signs, feature sheets, and promotional materials.
  • Ensure the lot is clean, organized, and visually appealing at all times.
  • Trailer Preparation and Staging
  • Perform basic checks such as lighting, tire pressure, straps, and safety chains.
  • Stage trailers for customer pickup, test drives, and sales presentations.
  • Photograph units as needed for inventory listings and promotional use.
  • Operational Support
  • Assist the sales team by pulling and staging units quickly and safely.
  • Coordinate with service personnel for units needing rework or inspection.
  • Support light groundskeeping duties such as debris removal and general upkeep.
  • Safety and Equipment Care
  • Operate forklifts, tractors, or yard vehicles safely and maintain certification.
  • Keep equipment clean, fueled, and report functional issues promptly.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by following company procedures and yard safety guidelines.
  • Performance Indicators
  • Inventory accuracy: correct VIN and placement during weekly audits.
  • Timetoline readiness: newly received units ready for the lot within required timelines.
  • Lot presentation quality: consistent spacing, signage, and cleanliness.
  • Customer pickup readiness: staged units clean and complete before handoff.
  • Safety compliance: zero avoidable yard or equipment incidents.
  • Qualifications
  • Experience with forklifts or yard equipment preferred (training available).
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift 75 lbs. and handle physical, handson tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in keeping things organized.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Why This Role Matters

A clean, organized, accurate lot directly supports the customer experience and the store’s overall performance. The Lot and Inventory Specialist helps the team move faster, serve customers better, and keep the operation running smoothly every day.

About Nationwide Trailers

Sourced by ZipRecruiter

Provide product knowledge and industry expertise to help our customers purchase the correct trailer for the job they need to do with our trailer. We take the time to understand how the trailer will be used, the nature of the cargo, and any other specific requirements that may determine what trailer or optional equipment will be needed for the specific application. We go above and beyond with customer service on all problems large or small. Nationwide Trailers was founded in 2009 by three industry experts with a shared vision of creating the largest PJ Trailers dealership in the USA. Each of the founders brought a wealth of experience to the company, including backgrounds in manufacturing, retail management, and even corporate leadership at a major trailer company. Today, the original Houston store has grown to a 30,000 sq ft facility on 7 sprawling acres with over 20 employees. Boasting Texas’ largest in-stock inventory of trailers, 14 service bays, a trailer parts store that has expanded online, and a busy trailer rental fleet, Houston remains the home of Nationwide Trailers’ largest store. Nationwide Trailers’ corporate headquarters also resides just a few miles north of the original Houston store.
