Job description

Position Title: Substitute Paraprofessional

Location: Black River Local Schools / Sullivan, OH

Employment Type: As Needed / Part-Time / On-Call

Pay Rate: $15.00/Hour


About the Role

Dedicated School Staffing is seeking dependable and compassionate Substitute Paraprofessionals to support students and teachers when regular staff are absent. This role is essential in maintaining a safe, inclusive, and productive learning environment. Substitute aides assist with classroom activities, provide individualized student support, and help ensure continuity of services across general education and special education settings.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support classroom teachers by assisting with instruction, activities, and supervision
  • Provide one-on-one or small-group support to students, including those with special needs
  • Implement accommodations and modifications as directed by the teacher or intervention specialist
  • Assist students with daily tasks such as organization, transitions, and engagement in lessons
  • Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, or during arrival/dismissal
  • Help maintain a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment
  • Follow established lesson plans, behavior plans, and safety protocols
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, staff, and administrators
  • Document student observations or incidents as required


Required Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid educational aide permit or higher teaching license (as required by state regulations)
  • Clean criminal background checks
  • Ability to work with children in a patient, supportive, and professional manner
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to follow directions and adapt to different classrooms and student needs
  • Physical ability to assist students as needed (e.g., mobility support, classroom tasks)
  • Adherence to theย Licensure Code of Professional Conductย for Ohio Educatorsย 


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with children, especially in educational or childcare settings
  • Prior experience supporting students with disabilities
  • Training in behavior management or de-escalation strategies
