General Function
The primary duty of the Director of Special Events, RCASH is planning, organizing, fundraising, publicizing, and producing all aspects of events for the Reynolds College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities including responsibilities for budget administration, negotiation of contracts and fees with artists, speakers, and performers, ticket sales, grants for precollege programs, and management of the logistical and physical aspects of various events sponsored by RCASH. The Director of Special Events, RCASH works with the Dean, Associate Dean, and RCASH School Directors and Department Heads to assist in the coordination of special projects in the twelve academic units that comprise RCASH.
Description of Primary Duties
The primary duties of this position include planning, coordinating, and executing a wide range of events and special projects for the Reynolds College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities (RCASH). Responsibilities include overseeing operations and patron relations for events held in the Reynolds Complex, Reynolds Arts Park, and John Goodman Amphitheatre, as well as coordinating college-wide programs, performances, receptions, and special events. The role manages logistics such as contracting artists and speakers, arranging travel and accommodations, organizing receptions and promotional activities, and collaborating with campus departments and external partners to ensure successful event execution. Additional duties include supporting fundraising initiatives and grant writing efforts, assisting competitive student teams and alumni engagement activities, maintaining professional development, and contributing to the overall success of RCASH through other assigned responsibilities.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor's degree is required. Master's preferred. An equivalent combination of years of experience and education may be considered for substitution of educational requirements.
Experience: At least one year of leadership experience in at least two of the following areas is required: arts events, university events, festivals, workshops, series of events, public relations, and fund-raising initiatives.
Skills: Exceptional interpersonal communication skills are required. Exceptional oral and written communication skills are required. Must have a working knowledge of various computer software applications, including word processing and database applications. Must have strong decision-making skills, the ability to prioritize tasks, and to bring many varied tasks to completion by deadlines. Must be able to work independently, have the ability to quickly learn the administrative structure of the university and the procedures necessary to accomplish the job, and the ability to use initiative in meeting the responsibilities of the job.
Other: Must be able to travel to and from many different locations on campus to make arrangements for events. Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to forty pounds. Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed.
