Responsibilities
Plans, directs, and manages the inventory management and centralized purchasing activities related to HVAC/R products to meet the Company Owned Store/s (COS) short and long-term goals. Maintains and maximizes use of the ERP business system for efficient management of supply chain processes. Position participates as part of the COS group/s overall leadership team.
  • Hires, trains, mentors, coaches, develops, corrects, and leads the purchasing and inventory management department to ensure company and branch needs are successfully and efficiently met.
  • Establishes, trains, and ensures compliance with practices and procedures to be followed by department employees. Makes recommendations for policies and procedures in conjunction with other departments for efficient overall operations.
  • Ensures all department documents are properly completed and maintained as appropriate.
  • Collaborates and proactively communicates with Johnstone Supply LLC supply chain, vendor management, marketing, IT and other teams to build and maintain a healthy partnership to support the business.
  • Expands functionality and direct daily maintenance of ERP system (i.e. Eclipse Purchasing Module) for maximization and efficiency of department.
  • Prepares inventory and purchasing related budgets and forecasts for senior management review and implementation.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Inventory Management Responsibilities:
  • Optimizes inventory items and stock quantities to drive inventory turns and reduce excess, slow, and damaged while ensuring customer needs are realized.
  • Coordinates inventory stocking levels with Branch Support, logistics, and field management during new facility start-ups, peak and low season ramp ups / downs, and vendor related impacts to ensure effective and efficient operations at all branches.
  • In coordination with vendor management, analyzes methods of vendor sourcing and determines best supplier relationships.

Purchasing Management Responsibilities:
  • Conducts analysis of purchasing policies and procedures, develops plans, formulates guidelines, and makes continuous improvements.
  • May participate in vendor negotiations in coordination with marketing and product management team.
  • Understands inventory needs of branch locations, establishes priorities, assigns workloads and reviews the more difficult and complex assignments.
  • Utilizes demand planning to forecast inventory levels that provide a high-level fill rate for customers.
  • Works in a collaborative effort with Vendor Management, sales and operations leaders supporting all aspects of promotional and sales activities (i.e. trade shows, marketing initiatives, promotions, pricing strategies, etc.) to help meet short and long-term goals.
  • Supervises and participates in the preparation of statistical reporting of inventory and purchasing related information such as vendor out of stock, inventory turns, and freight costs. Prepares and presents data, reports, and other information as requested.
  • Performs research, special projects or participate in initiatives as requested by management for the smooth and efficient operation of the purchasing department.
  • In collaboration with product data and pricing teams, maintains accurate costing structure from vendors and Johnstone Supply LLC.

Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree in business, logistics, marketing, or related field required; 10 years of experience in a similar position; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Required:
    • Bachelor's degree in business, logistics, marketing, or related field
    • Five or more years leading and managing a team with direct supervisory responsibilities
    • Ten or more years of progressively more responsible positions within inventory management / purchasing and logistics fields.
  • Preferred:
    • Prior experience with Eclipse ERP system preferred.
    • HVAC/R knowledge helpful.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
  • Valid driver's license and proof of insurance/insurability required in order to travel by vehicle.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • A strong work history in managing a centralized purchasing department that includes buying, quality assurance, and contract administration is essential.
  • Ability to successfully collaborate, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external business partners.
  • Ability to define problems, analyze a variety of data sets, collect data, establish facts, apply critical thinking, and transfer valid conclusions into action plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate a high level of activity under a variety of conditions and constraints with solid project management skills.
  • Ability to actively listen, identify needs, and provide effective solutions.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, solid financial understanding, and a sense of urgency to resolve problems effectively are critical to success on the job.
  • Thorough understanding of procurement and supply chain process and methodologies.
  • Ability to successfully and professionally communicate in multiple formats with ability to effectively present and deliver information to a varied audience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 products including Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint with ability to learn and apply other job-related technologies.
  • While multilingual skills are valued, English proficiency (written and spoken) is a core requirement for this position due to the nature of the work, safety regulations, and to ensure accurate communication and comprehension.

Physical Demand
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, and/or feel; flex hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms; turn head and torso; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk. Specific vision requirements are close and peripheral vision. The employee is often required to walk, particularly for on-site visits. The employee is occasionally required to carry and/or move up to 25 pounds. Position requires driving and as such requires ability to sit for long periods of time and can experience bouncing and vibration.
