Job description

Requires direct involvement with specific departments in support of accurate receiving, distribution, and transportation of materials. Responsible for the daily movement of essential patient direct and non-direct related items throughout Mayo Clinic with attention to standards for professionalism, safety, security, and productivity.  Delivers patient specimens, pharmaceuticals, surgical instruments, surgical implants, medical scopes, patient histories, staff educational material, inter clinic mail, USPS mail, USPS packages under 50lbs., and various items including nuclear medicine materials. 
Must display high-level problem-solving skills to resolve issues related to materials not received or delayed. Collaborates with the supervisor and the affected work unit for solutions. Sustains and complies with a broad range of policies and governmental regulations. Assists with projects and new employee training as directed by management.  Responsible for the timely processing of incoming calls and requests for the delivery of specimens and other items.  Monitors, enters, and updates requests in the tracking system for timely deliveries.  Work varied hours, which may include days, evenings, holidays, and weekends, with rotating days off.

High school diploma/GED required.  Two years of hospital, customer service, or business-related experience preferred.  Requires a valid MN Driver's License for driving requests as applicable and an excellent driving record.  Requires computer, problem solving, continuous improvement skills.  Position requires a high level of concentration, memory retention, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently without direct supervision.  Requires exceptional communication and human relation skills. 
Must be able to adapt to unpredictable and stressful situations while maintaining a calm and pleasant demeanor.  Must also be able to demonstrate an ability to quickly develop plans to accomplish unexpected and time sensitive requirements; and must display sound judgment when given conflicting information.  Must have good knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office with the ability to utilize spreadsheets and database management programs.  Serves as a resource on work unit initiatives and communicates knowledge with customers and colleagues.  Must be able to display exceptional initiative, adaptability and flexibility in an ever-changing work environment.  Must be able to handle/prioritize tasks simultaneously. 
Requires regular lifting/carrying (up to 50 pounds), requires walking distances over 12 miles daily.
