Job Summary
The Surface Operations Intern will support various functional areas within PSA BDP Surface through hands-on operational, analytical, administrative, and project support activities. This internship is designed to provide practical exposure to transportation management, logistics operations, client relations, freight payment, procurement, reporting, and transportation technology systems.
The intern will rotate across multiple departments and assist with day-to-day operational support, reporting, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives while gaining real-world experience within a fast-paced supply chain and logistics environment. This program is intended to help develop future talent and evaluate potential long-term employment opportunities upon graduation.
Position Summary
The Surface Operations Intern will support multiple departments within Surface through entry-level operational, analytical, administrative, and project support activities. This internship is designed to provide hands-on experience across transportation operations, client relations, freight payment, procurement, reporting, and transportation technology.
The intern will rotate through several functional areas to gain exposure to the day-to-day operations of a managed transportation and logistics organization while assisting teams with operational support and continuous improvement initiatives.
The long-term objective of this internship program is to develop future talent and evaluate potential full-time employment opportunities upon graduation.
This approach has proven successful for Surface in the past. We have previously hired three employees through similar internship opportunities who successfully transitioned into permanent roles and became productive members of the organization.
Essential Functions
  • Batch and key freight invoices for customer accounts
  • Assist with freight invoice processing and reconciliation reporting
  • Support shipment tracking activities for managed transportation and drayage accounts
  • Assist with transportation system testing and rate loading activities
  • Support customer reporting preparation and Quarterly Business Review (QBR) activities
  • Assist with KPI reporting and operational metric analysis
  • Perform data validation and reporting support activities
  • Update process documentation and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Support project management tracking and follow-up coordination
  • Assist with customer onboarding activities and task management
  • Provide administrative and operational support across multiple departments
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives
