Opportunity Overview

The Director of Technology is responsible for leading the organization’s technology strategy, operations, and infrastructure while supporting business growth through mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures. This role ensures reliable, secure IT operations and provides leadership for IT due diligence, integration planning, and post-merger execution.

Key Responsibilities

(Individual Contributor - 60%)

  • Workflow Architecture: Translate complex freight rail operational, supply chain, and logistics processes into highly automated, scalable Jira Cloud workflows.
  • Jira Cloud Administration: Design and maintain Jira custom fields, permission schemes, post-functions, screen schemes, and advanced native automations.
  • Data-Centric Design: Architect workflows and SaaS applications with the end-state in mind, ensuring data is captured cleanly to support downstream reporting and BI initiatives.
  • Enterprise Business Applications: UKG, Dynamics 365 (D365), Ironclad, Concur, and specialized rail/logistics platforms (LocomotiveDB, CedarAI, RSI, etc.), focusing on post-go-live support and continuous optimization.
  • Business Analysis: Partner directly with transportation and logistics stakeholders to extract, refine, and document business requirements.

(Leadership & Strategy - 40%)

  • Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and upskill a small team of 2–3 Business Systems Analysts, establishing high standards for workflow mapping and system design.
  • Strategic Data Vision: Partner with leadership to explore the "art of the possible" for centralizing SaaS data, helping guide the strategy toward platforms like Azure Data Lake and Power BI.
  • Resource & Intake Management: Oversee the team’s intake queue, balancing daily operational support with long-term process-building projects.
  • Stakeholder Alignment: Act as the strategic bridge between frontline transportation operations, executive leadership, and future technical data resources

  • Domain Expertise: Proven background in the freight rail, logistics, supply chain, or transportation sectors, with a strong understanding of operational lifecycles.
  • Jira Cloud: Experience configuring Jira Cloud, managing product access, building cross-project automations, and leveraging Atlassian ecosystem features (automation, confluence).
  • Conceptual Data Literacy: Strong theoretical understanding of how SaaS data models, APIs, and webhooks extract data to feed modern BI ecosystems (e.g., Data Lakes, Power BI). Hands-on data engineering is not required, but conceptual strategy is critical.
  • Process Mapping: Strong proficiency in workflow visualization tools (e.g., Lucid chart, Visio) to map complex, multi-system operational flows.
  • Familiarity with the capabilities of Microsoft Azure or Power BI ecosystems.
