Log Sale/Bi-Product Technician

Baillie Lumber Co. has an immediate opening for a Log Sale Technician. This position will be based at our Superior Hardwoods facility in Montezuma, IN.

Baillie Lumber Co. is one of North America’s largest hardwood lumber manufacturers, distributors, and exporters. We are a provider of hardwood logs, hardwood lumber and proprietary grade hardwood lumber products. Founded in 1923, we have grown from a regional supplier of American hardwoods to an international hardwood supplier that can ship hardwood lumber to any region of the world.

General Job Description:

The primary function of this position is to manage and coordinate incoming and outgoing material flow for the log sale and biproduct program to include log grading, scaling, sorting, preparing, re-manufactuing and loading logs/bi-products according to company and customer needs.

Specific Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Receiving and scaling incoming logs by species, grade and sort per sales requirements.
  • Operate handheld data collectors to input species, grades and sorts.
  • Maximize the value of the logs through value-based sorting and merchandizing.
  • Coordinate shipment and load bi-products (chips/dust/bark).
  • Operate multiple types of equipment within the function of the role; Wheel loaders, knucklebooms, chainsaw in the normal flow of day-to-day business
  • Able to work directly with domestic and international customers.
  • Independent worker, able to work in all weather conditions.

Essential Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years proven experience in working on a log yard or for a resale log program preferred. A degree from a two year technical program or 4 year undergraduate program in a forest products related field will be considered as a substitute for field experience.
  • Experience and ability to work safely in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Must be able to work well with all levels of personnel whether individually or in a team environment.
