What You'll Do
Epic Games is looking for a Senior Security Engineer focused on Game Security to develop and improve anti-cheat capabilities within our games. Your efforts will be critical to the success of Fortnite and the many creators who depend on it. The ideal candidate would have prior experience in developing gameplay features and backend services. We are particularly interested in those that have prior experience working with Unreal Engine. Your primary focus will be on the dedicated server and backend code, but you will partner closely with teams writing client code as well as game teams, ensuring that the underlying systems that are built are full-featured, resilient, and secure. This is an incredible opportunity to create a safe environment for millions of players and advance industry best practices.
In this role, you will
  • Design and build new backend services or features that power Fortnite anti-cheat or related security capabilities, as well as implementing corresponding game code
  • Read, debug, and write code for Fortnite in C++ and associated backend services in Go
  • Proactively seek out vulnerable components in the Fortnite game client or backend, then clearly communicate the problem and recommended solution, implementing it as well if appropriate Influence others to maintain a security oriented mindset
  • Debug, modify, and optimize existing security systems for both the Fortnite game client and backend components
  • Ensure Fortnite is operating well for players and that our services are resilient at scale. Assist in diagnosing and resolving Live issues
What we're looking for
  • BSc in Computer Science/Software Engineering or related subject - candidates without a degree are welcome as long as they have proven extensive hands-on experience
  • Excellent knowledge and debugging skills in the C++ programming language
  • Fluency in Go, Java, C#, or similar programming language
  • Self-starter, you approach challenges creatively and methodically, seeing them through to final resolution
  • Ability to code and architect system frameworks, new APIs, and tools. Versed in software programming principles
  • Understanding of online multiplayer video game architectures
  • Technical understanding of the structure and technology stacks of online service backends
  • User-focused, passionate, solutions-focused, and innovative. These traits equal success at Epic and influence everything we do
