Job description

Summary
GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the general supervision of the foreman, the locksmith specialist installs, maintains, and repairs locks and door control hardware, cuts keys, manages key control, and generally maintains the security of all district buildings.
Description
Classified position is announced to in house applicants only. This position will remain open until filled.
8 hours per day/255 days per year/Lane 12 $26.30 per hour (2025-2026 Support Salary Table)
(Promotions result in a 5% minimum increase)
GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the general supervision of the foreman, the locksmith specialist installs, maintains, and repairs locks and door control hardware, cuts keys, manages key control, and generally maintains the security of all district buildings.
Knowledge & Ability:
1. Basic understanding of the inner working mechanisms of all locks and door control hardware and combination safe locks.
2. Knowledge of pinning and maintenance on Corbin, Schlage, Medeco Biaxial and Medeco Mark 4 systems.
3. Experience with Sargent, Von Duprin and other hardware manufacturers.
4. Basic understanding of electricity and electronic hardware and the equipment used.
5. Knowledge of correct procedures in setting up single key to multi-level master key systems.
6. Experience in writing and reading pinning charts.
7. Ability to identify keyways and key blanks by manufacturer key number.
8. Knowledge of car lock mechanisms and opening procedures.
9. Knowledge of material safety data sheets (MSDS) preferred.
Job-Related Experience:
1. Four years of experience related to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Educational Requirements:
1. Ability to read and write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
2. Formal training or apprenticeship training in locksmithing preferred.
Licenses/Certification:
1. Driver's license.
2. Locksmith certification preferred.
