Location Manager information

What does a location manager do?

In the film industry, a location manager handles procuring the set and location for TV or movie filming. Your responsibilities in this career include collaborating with production companies and advertising agencies, developing solutions for problems that arise before and during shooting, finding the ideal location for different scenes, allocating funds and presenting a budget for filming related expenses, preparing negotiations to film in a specific area, and supporting the crew during filming. Your duties also require you to obtain any legal rights or permits before the shoot, inform residents of the set area, and minimize potential conflict. Location managers can also work for other industries, including retail and property.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a location manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Location Manager, you need expertise in site scouting, logistics coordination, negotiation, and a strong understanding of production requirements, often supported by experience in film, television, or event management. Familiarity with location management software, permitting processes, and budgeting tools is commonly required. Strong organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are essential soft skills for managing diverse teams and stakeholders. These skills ensure that productions run smoothly, locations are secured efficiently, and projects stay within budget and on schedule.

What are some common challenges faced by location managers during film or television productions?

Location Managers often encounter challenges such as securing permits on tight timelines, managing logistics for large crews, and ensuring locations meet both creative and practical requirements. They must balance the needs of the production with local regulations and community concerns, often requiring strong negotiation and problem-solving skills. Additionally, they coordinate closely with various departments, such as production, transportation, and security, to ensure smooth operations on set.

Job description

POSITION: Sales Manager
LOCATION: Burlington, ON (fully onsite)
MacDonald Search Group is a national permanent placement recruiting firm and we recruit on behalf of hiring companies.

A growing industrial solutions company is seeking an experienced Sales Manager to lead and develop both inside and outside sales teams. This leadership role is responsible for driving revenue growth, strengthening customer relationships, improving sales performance, and supporting long-term business expansion across technical products and service offerings.
Above all else, they are looking for a franchise player with this hire – someone who won’t just stay inside their box and will do whatever they see needs to be done, someone who will treat it like their own business, and bring a good attitude.
The sales process needs much more structure so someone who is analytical and can draw insights from data is paramount.
Management believes their employees are most important and customers are second most. Company culture is exceptional as management truly values and appreciates their employees, invests in them, and provides great employee perks.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop inside and outside salespeople
  • Recruit, onboard, and support the development of new employees
  • Establish sales goals, KPIs, and accountability measures to achieve growth objectives
  • Manage pipeline activity, forecasting, and sales performance to ensure targets are met
  • Collaborate with senior leadership on sales strategy, pricing, market positioning, and growth initiatives
  • Participate in customer meetings, presentations, and site visits to strengthen client relationships
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and responsiveness across all sales channels
  • Support resolution of escalated customer concerns in a timely and professional manner
  • Foster a positive, accountable, and customer-focused team culture
  • Conduct regular team meetings, coaching sessions, and performance reviews
  • Support team members with sales strategy, negotiations, and professional development
  • Oversee CRM utilization, sales reporting, forecasting, budgeting, and KPI tracking
  • Work cross-functionally with operations, engineering, service, and leadership teams to support execution and customer success
Qualifications & Experience
  • Proven experience in sales leadership within industrial products, manufacturing, technical services, engineered equipment, or related industries
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to balance strategic planning with day-to-day operational leadership
  • Experience managing CRM systems, sales forecasting, budgeting, and pipeline management
  • Comfortable traveling regularly for customer visits and business development activities
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Ability to travel internationally when needed
Compensation & Benefits
  • 120-130K+ base salary based on experience
  • Performance-based bonus and commission structure tied to growth objectives
  • Total OTE in year 2/3+ = 150-200K
  • Vehicle allowance
  • Benefits
If this sounds like the right opportunity for you, please apply online.
