Required Degree:
Bachelor's Degree in Translation, Localization, or related field.
The required degree must be completed by the start date.
Experience:
Required:
- Sufficient experience in translation, localization, computer-assisted translation, language project management and/or translation technology to teach foundation and upper-division courses.
- Sufficient proficiency in English to:
- Teach effectively to English-speaking students
- Counsel and motivate students
- Benefit from professional development workshops
- Communicate professionally with peers, supervisors, students and people outside the University
- Willingness to receive additional training and professional development in the field of translation pedagogy
- Advanced proficiency in translation and/or localization software
- Ability to learn and successfully use Learning Management Systems (LMS), such as BYU's Learning Suite
Preferred:
- Successful experience teaching translation and localization to university students
- An adequate understanding of translation and localization education theory and pedagogy to develop curriculum materials and to plan lesson activities in a field where commercially published textbooks and instructional materials are sometimes unavailable
- Knowledge of translation assessment criteria and the testing procedures needed to prepare and administer assessments and assign grades accurately and fairly
Duties/Expectations:
- Teach PLANG 414: Translation and Localization
- Meet with students one-on-one or in small groups to provide supplemental instruction and guidance on course content
- Participate in professional development training workshops and respond to recommendations for improvement
- Write a course syllabus and set up course materials on the BYU Learning Suite platform
