Job description

Under general guidance of the Event Programming Director and Programming Assistant, the Mascot is responsible for promoting the Los Angeles County Fair as an official costumed ambassador of the Fair at local community events and the Fair.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Representing the Los Angeles County Fair and Fairplex at community functions throughout the year
• Participating in meet & greets and photo taking opportunities at year-round events and Los Angeles County Fair
• Assisting mascots with getting in costume
• Assuring mascots safety while mascots are in public
• Driving to and from community events
• Keeping costumes and dressings rooms clean and orderly
• Informing the Mascot Lead or Programming Department of any concerns or problems with the costumes
• Completing surveys based on experience at events
• Other duties as assigned
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
• The ideal candidate should have a performing arts background with experience in either dance or drama, although all applicants will be considered
• Strong communication skills with all levels within the organization
• Applicants must be comfortable interacting with a multitude of individuals in a community-based setting
• Ability to troubleshoot situations without delay and act accordingly
• Friendly and outgoing individual
• Works well with children and other staff members at many events
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF JOB
• Applicants may be no taller than 5'8" due to costumes being size specific
• Applicants must be in good physical condition and capable of performing the requirements involved, which includes the ability to wear, and be mobile and interactive in, a size-specific body costume - including character head - for extended periods of time
• Applicants will be required to audition in costume as a mascot
• Must be well organized and flexible to meet time, priority and workload demands
• Must be able to lift approximately 30 lbs.
• Must be available to work flexible hours
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must have reliable transportation, valid driver's license a plus
