Department: Propagation Yamhill, OR

Reports To: West Coast Propagation Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (optional for Part-Time and Full -Time)


Position Summary:

Bailey Nurseries is a family-owned nursery with over 100 years of history, known for quality plants, strong relationships, and a commitment to growing people, plants, and partnerships. Our propagation teams are where the growing process begins, making this role an important part of supporting plant quality and operational success.

The person in this role is responsible for performing a wide range of repair and preventative maintenance tasks to ensure the safety, functionality, and efficiency of nursery equipment, facilities, and infrastructure. This role reports to the West Coast Propagation Manager and supports operations by minimizing downtime and maintaining a clean and safe working environment across the propagation facilities.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work, troubleshooting, and being part of a team that supports the health and quality of plants from the very beginning of the growing process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the upkeep, maintenance, and safety of the propagation area.
  • Ensure irrigation systems (boom, greenhouse, and outdoor) are maintained, repaired, and in proper working condition.
  • Clean, inspect, and perform basic maintenance on heaters, fans, ventilation systems, and small motors/engines including carts, vaporizers, and mowers.
  • Install, maintain, and repair irrigation filters, pumps, PVC pipes, and related components.
  • Perform or assist with minor electrical work and site preparation as needed.
  • Maintain and organize a clean, labeled stockroom of tools, parts, and supplies.
  • Routinely service and document maintenance of propagation equipment and generators.
  • Communicate and collaborate with greenhouse growers, propagation teams, and local shops to set maintenance priorities and coordinate support.
  • Assist with contractor coordination and vendor communications, including purchasing and negotiating prices for maintenance needs.
  • Work with the Safety Manager to identify and implement workplace safety improvements.
  • Support compliance with equipment safety standards and company protocols.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the operational needs of the business.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in general maintenance, facility repair, or equipment servicing.
  • Working knowledge of basic electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to safely operate hand and power tools, ladders, lifts, and tractors.
  • Valid driverโ€™s license and reliable transportation; must meet company insurance requirements for work-related driving.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and follow instructions in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a horticulture, greenhouse, or agricultural environment.
  • Welding or fabrication skills.
  • Knowledge of HVAC or irrigation systems.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. frequently.
  • Standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and climbing ladders regularly.
  • Exposure to outdoor conditions including varying weather, mud, and uneven terrain.
  • Work around moving equipment, loud noise, dust, and agricultural chemicals.
  • May require use of PPE including gloves, goggles, and hearing protection.
  • Occasional travel between Yamhill, OR and Dayton, OR locations.
