Job Summary
Detroit, MI
This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all energy-related assets located within a central utility complex at the Stellantis Detroit Assembly Complex Mack. Utility systems and powerhouse infrastructure experience is required.
Assets include (3) Carrier Chillers and (4) York Chillers with a total capacity of 14,500 Tons, (4) Ingersoll Rand Centrifugal Air Compressors and (1) Elliott Air Compressor with a total capacity of 27,600 CFM along with associated Cooling Towers, (61) Roof Top Air Handling Units (Gas Fired), (12) Electrical Sub-Stations; Lighting and Electrical Distribution Systems; and a WWTP capable of processing 500,000 gal/day of Industrial Waste. Perform all other work related to their trade as may be required on Utility Assets equipment as directed by the Utility Services Manager (USM) at the Stellantis Detroit Assembly Complex Mack.

Key Accountabilities
  • Ensure that the Company-owned utility assets are operated in a safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible manner while satisfying the Customer's utility and energy requirements.
  • Operating central utility complex equipment to meet the day-to-day energy demands of the manufacturing facility. This includes the production of chilled water and compressed air at the quantities and specifications required by the manufacturing facility.
  • Monitoring of operating parameters and recording operating data, including production efficiencies, electrical usage, pressures, temperatures, vibration indications, alarms and other pertinent information related to the safe operation of the utility complex equipment.
  • Perform Operator rounds using handheld tablet to manually retrieve and record operating data from plant equipment, including TekWorx and BayView networks.
  • Operating Engineers will be required to promptly notify the USM of any unusual, abnormal or potentially unsafe operating conditions and to take action to mitigate any potentially unsafe condition or condition that if otherwise not corrected could result in out of specification system production.
  • Operation of all cooling towers and heat exchangers that support the operation of equipment within the utility complex.
  • Operation and routine maintenance associated with water treatment equipment, cooling towers, cold water closed loops. These activities will include the routine monitoring of water quality, the addition of water treatment chemicals to ensure the required water quality and the performance of routine maintenance of water treatment equipment including changing filters etc.
  • The de-energization (lock-out/tag-out) of all equipment within the scope of responsibility pertaining to Company-owned utility assets that is required to allow the safe performance of maintenance on such equipment.
  • Perform routine (planned maintenance) on all utility complex equipment, including predictive, preventive, and minor corrective maintenance. Operating Engineers will also be required to assist contractors with work that is beyond the capability of the Operating Engineer, including tasks such as code welding, protective calibration, etc.
  • The recording and documenting of all maintenance activities that are performed on utility complex equipment. This may include utilizing a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to electronically document information and historical data.
  • Perform troubleshooting and correcting problems related to the proper monitoring, control and operation of utility complex equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area ensuring that the area is left in an unobstructed and safe condition following the completion of the job.

Qualifications
Required:
  • At a minimum a high school diploma or GED
  • Detroit First Class Refrigeration License
  • At least (5) years' experience in utility complex operations and maintenance
  • Shift work is required, and employees will perform both operation and routine maintenance of the utility complex equipment
  • Must be able to perform data entry, mange email and use tablets and personal computers

Familiarity with control networks preferred.
