Job description

At Apple, we build things that are thoughtfully designed and carefully crafted with our users in mind. We're a diverse collection of problem solvers and doers, continually reimagining our products, systems, and practices to help people do what they love, while outpacing challenges that face a growing organization. The Apple Services Engineering (ASE) team is one of the most exciting examples of Apple's long-held passion for combining art and technology. These are the people who power the App Store, Apple TV, Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, and Apple Books. And they do it on a massive scale, meeting Apple's high expectations with dedication to deliver a huge variety of entertainment in over 35 languages to more than 150 countries.
We're seeking an Engineering Leader for our Central Quality Automation Team to drive the next generation of automation across Apple media products and services. This role demands a leader with deep hands-on coding expertise and a proven track record in architecting and delivering robust, scalable test automation and performance testing frameworks. You will define the strategic vision, build and maintain cutting-edge infrastructure, and empower product teams across Apple to deliver high-quality test automation efficiently and confidently.
Description
In this role, you will be responsible for leading a team of Automation and Performance Framework Engineers across multiple sites, owning the strategy, architecture, and delivery of enterprise-wide testing infrastructure that serves as the foundation for quality across Apple's products and services. You will lead the team as they create the base frameworks that are used for test automation across ASE and Apple, support test automation efforts, and performance testing. Strong experience managing distributed technical teams and a solid understanding of AI applications in testing are essential.
As a people leader, you will recruit, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of framework engineers, fostering a collaborative, innovative, and technically rigorous culture across distributed locations. Your ability to inspire engineers, manage cross-site teams effectively, and drive results in a fast-paced, complex environment will be critical to your impact.
Your technical depth, strategic mindset, and passion for engineering excellence will shape the future of quality of our products at Apple.
Minimum Qualifications
5+ years of experience in software development, with a significant focus on building and scaling test automation or performance testing frameworks.
5+ years of experience in a leadership role, managing and mentoring highly technical engineering teams, specifically those focused on infrastructure or framework development.
Demonstrated strong hands-on coding proficiency in multiple languages, including Swift, Python, Kotlin, and Shell scripting.
Proven experience in designing and architecting complex, scalable, and maintainable test automation frameworks (e.g., UI, API, mobile, backend) and performance testing solutions.
Extensive experience with performance testing tools and methodologies (e.g., JMeter, LoadRunner, k6, Gatling) and understanding of performance metrics and analysis.
Strong understanding of software architecture patterns, distributed systems, and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
Deep expertise with CI/CD pipelines and tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps) and integrating automated tests into these workflows.
Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and their application in testing (e.g., AI-powered test generation, anomaly detection, predictive analytics for quality).
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent extensive practical experience.
Experience with specific technologies relevant to your product domain (e.g., machine learning testing, embedded systems, large-scale data platforms).
Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
Background working within large-scale, cross-functional engineering organizations with complex product portfolios.
Experience managing and leading distributed or multi-site engineering teams, including strategies for effective communication and collaboration.
Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Proven ability to address technical challenges, working across teams to build and manage relationships, navigate delivery dependencies, and ensure project success.
