How much do lng welder jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 11, 2026, the average hourly pay for lng welder in the United States is $23.17, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $20.19 and $25.48 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an LNG welder, and why are they important?

To thrive as an LNG Welder, you need certified welding expertise, a thorough understanding of metallurgy, and experience with high-pressure piping and cryogenic materials, typically supported by relevant welding certifications such as AWS or ASME. Proficiency with specialized welding tools, non-destructive testing (NDT) equipment, and adherence to safety protocols is required. Attention to detail, manual dexterity, and strong problem-solving skills are essential soft skills for ensuring precision and safety. These skills are critical for maintaining the structural integrity and safety of LNG systems, where even minor errors can have significant consequences.

What are some common safety challenges LNG welders face, and how are they addressed on the job?

LNG welders often work in environments where they are exposed to extremely low temperatures, flammable gases, and confined spaces, making safety a top priority. Common challenges include preventing gas leaks, managing cryogenic burns, and ensuring proper ventilation to avoid hazardous fumes. To address these, LNG welders follow strict safety protocols like using specialized protective gear, conducting regular equipment checks, and working closely with safety officers. Ongoing training and adherence to industry standards are essential to maintaining a safe work environment.

What is an LNG welder?

LNG welders are specialized professionals who join and repair metal components used in liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities, such as pipelines, storage tanks, and processing equipment. They work with materials like stainless steel and aluminum, using advanced welding techniques to ensure high safety and quality standards. LNG welders must be skilled in handling hazardous environments and follow strict industry regulations to prevent leaks and accidents. Their work is crucial for the safe transport and storage of LNG.

What is the difference between Lng Welder vs Pipe Welder?

AspectLng WelderPipe Welder
CertificationsASME, AWS, specialized LNG welding certificationsASME, AWS, general pipe welding certifications
Work EnvironmentRefineries, LNG plants, industrial facilitiesConstruction sites, refineries, industrial plants
Industry UsagePrimarily in LNG and energy sectorsOil & gas, construction, industrial piping

Lng Welders and Pipe Welders share many certifications and often work in similar industrial environments. However, Lng Welders specialize in welding LNG-specific components, requiring specialized skills and certifications, while Pipe Welders focus on general piping systems across various industries. Both roles are essential in energy and industrial sectors, but Lng Welders have a niche expertise in LNG facilities.
