Job description

Typical Trade Tasks:

  • Fabricate, install, remove, modify and repair piping/hoses in the shop, aboard ship and pier side temporary ship support systems.
  • Remove, fabricate, assemble, or reinstall various Submarine non-nuclear piping systemsincluding pressure joints and temporary systems.
  • Fit-up and prepare various system piping for cutting, welding, or brazing (e.g. Sanitary,Potable water, cooling piping systems).
  • emplate, fabricate and install plumbing and high-pressure air systems piping.
  • Work from templates, manufacturing and installing parts and assemblies with reference to base lines, centerlines, frame lines, and other reference points.

Trade Skill Requirements:

  • Each Marine Pipefitter contractor employee must have at least two (2) years of specializedexperience on US Navy vessels or Commercial Marine experience independently performingthe identified Typical Trade Tasks.
  • Each Marine Pipefitter contractor employee shall be capable of installing, repairing or

modifying high and low pressure water, steam, gas, oil, or other high and low pressure pipesor fittings.

  • Each Marine Pipefitter contractor employee shall possess the knowledge, skills, and

abilities to fabricate and assemble various piping systems of differing metal which includes: cutting, bending, shaping, alignment, and mounting of piping systems on U.S. Naval Surface Ships and Submarines.

  • Each Marine Pipefitter contractor employee shall possess the ability to read, interpret, andapply blueprints.
  • Each Marine Pipefitter contractor employee shall have the ability to perform shop

mathematical calculations involving basic geometry to lay out angles, arcs and circles.

  • Each Marine Pipefitter contractor employee shall be proficient with precision measuringtools such as micrometers, depth gauges and calipers while performing close tolerancework.
  • Each Marine Pipefitter contractor employee shall be capable of inspecting, testing, andremoving, installed piping and associated valves, hardware, and hangers.
  • Each Marine Pipefitter contractor employee shall be trained and qualified to the

workmanship requirements for piping installation and fit up as prescribed in Welded JointDesign (MIL-STD 22D), Requirements for Fabrication Welding and Inspection, and CastingInspection and repair for Machinery, Piping and Pressure Vessels (S9074-AR-GIB-010/278),NAVSEA Standard Item 009-12, and NSTM Chapter 505.
