America's Newsroom is looking for a sharp, motivated, and versatile Freelance Associate Producer to join our fast-paced morning news team. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career television news producer looking to sharpen their editorial instincts, strengthen their production skills, and contribute to one of the nation's leading live news programs. The ideal candidate is a strong writer with solid newsroom experience, exceptional news judgment, and a genuine curiosity to learn every aspect of live television production.

  • Write clear, conversational scripts, teases, guest tosses, and banners under tight deadlines
  • Pitch story ideas, compelling soundbites, and visual elements that strengthen our coverage
  • Collaborate with producers to coordinate reporter live shots and guest segments
  • Research developing stories and identify editorial updates throughout the news cycle
  • Monitor live events, news conferences, and breaking developments, communicating updates quickly and accurately
  • Learn and contribute to multiple aspects of live television production while working alongside experienced producers and newsroom leaders

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field of study preferred, or equivalent experience
  • Experience working in a major-market newsroom or national news environment
  • Exceptional writing skills, impeccable grammar and strong editorial judgment
  • Deep understanding of politics, current events and the national news landscape
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and adapt quickly in a fast-paced breaking news environment
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset
  • Demonstrated curiosity and a desire to continuously develop new editorial and production skills
  • Experience working with newsroom systems such as iNews, VIZ, Dalet, or similar production tools preferred
  • Control room experience and desktop editing experience are a plus
