Primary Purpose of the Organization:
The primary purpose of Police and Public Safety is to protect the life and property of the students, faculty, and staff on the campus of Fayetteville State University and to support the University's core mission of academic excellence by providing comprehensive and professional public safety services and convenient access to a peaceful and orderly campus community.
The Parking and Traffic unit within the Fayetteville State University Department of Police and Public Safety is responsible for traffic and parking enforcement, gatehouse security operations, providing security to academic buildings and providing additional security support to the department and the university. The unit is responsible for planning, maintaining, and the administering of all parking and traffic related services on the campus to include parking enforcement, parking at special events, athletic events, and other traffic related functions. The unit is responsible for the operation of the gatehouse access point, providing security patrols of campus, and providing security services to academic buildings. The unit also provides escorts for students, faculty, staff, and distinguished visitors to campus.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
The employee in this position will have supervisory responsibility for Property Security Officer assigned to the unit. The employee will evaluate Property Security Officers' performance, designate assignments, direct resources, and provide direction and guidance to lower ranking security officers, as needed. The employee will work with other supervisors to establish performance objectives for Property Security Officers. The employee will monitor the actions of Property Security Officers to ensure compliance with University and department policies and procedures. Duties include providing leadership/supervision to officers on the shift, training officers, inspecting Property Security Officers and equipment, reviewing reports and documentation completed during the shift, conducting performance reviews, administering personnel actions, and providing input concerning operational planning. Other duties may include assisting with scheduling of Property Security Officers to ensure appropriate staffing levels, and assisting Property Security Officers with completing duties during times of increased workload, staffing shortages, or as needed.
Employees in this position perform and supervisor employees who perform security, traffic and parking enforcement, and public contact work in support of campus operations. Work involves providing leadership/supervision to officers on the shift, training officers, inspecting Property Security Officers and equipment, reviewing reports and documentation completed during the shift, conducting performance reviews, administering personnel actions, and providing input concerning operational planning. Employee will evaluate Property Security Officers' performance, designate assignments, direct resources, and provide direction and guidance to lower ranking security officers, as needed. Employee will work with other supervisors to establish performance objectives for Property Security Officers. Employee will monitor the actions of Property Security Officers to ensure compliance with University and department policies and procedures, assist with scheduling of Property Security Officers to ensure appropriate staffing levels, and assist Property Security Officers with completing duties during times of increased workload, staffing shortages, or as needed.
Work involves performing and supervising employees who perform the following duties:
  • Securing, guarding, and protecting property and grounds by patrolling the interior and exterior of facilities, and other areas of campus via foot, vehicle, or other mode of transport.
  • Operation of an access control point gatehouse, which includes checking identification documentation for persons and vehicles entering the campus, logging in visitors, maintaining documentation of visitors and non-registered vehicles entering campus, and denying access to persons and vehicles, as required.
  • Guarding property against fire, damage, theft, or other hazards, monitoring assigned areas for possible violations of policies, regulations, and rules of conduct; recognizing and reporting unusual, suspicious, or hazardous situations; providing information and assistance to the public.
  • operating and maintaining security, traffic, and parking enforcement equipment; and maintaining related records and reports.
  • Work requires knowledge of the supervisory techniques, standard safety, security, traffic and parking enforcement practices and equipment.
  • Maintains confidentiality and discretion in the course of conducting business; works individually and/or with others.
  • May require rotating shift, weekend, holiday, and overtime work.
  • This position is essential and is required to report for duty during inclement weather, natural disasters and other emergency conditions, and during campus closings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent and one year of experience in security, enforcement, or protection work. May require valid N.C. driver's license.

  • Previous experience in security or protection work preferred.
  • Previous experience as a supervisor.
  • Must have a valid N.C. driver's license
