Job description

#WeAreParamount on a mission to unleash the power of content... you in?
We've got the brands, we've got the stars, we've got the power to achieve our mission to entertain the planet - now all we're missing is... YOU! Becoming a part of Paramount means joining a team of passionate people who not only recognize the power of content but also enjoy a touch of fun and uniqueness. Together, we co-create moments that matter - both for our audiences and our employees - and aim to leave a positive mark on culture.

Senior Software Engineer, CMS Platform
Paramount Streaming Technology & Engineering
Location: Burbank, CA / New York, NY/ San Francisco, CA Full-Time (onsite)

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer, CMS to design and deliver scalable services at Paramount Streaming. You will become an expert in core components of our content management platform, lead small-to-medium projects, and mentor other engineers - shipping high-quality code across a polyglot stack powering Paramount+, Pluto TV, and CBS.com.
Motivational Fit
You want to go deep - mastering a system and becoming the person others turn to.
You're driven to improve code quality, developer experience, and team processes.
You take ownership from design through production and enjoy mentoring others.
Responsibilities
Design and implement features, APIs, and services across our stack: Java/Spring Boot, Next.js/React, Python, Kafka/PubSub, and Solr search pipelines.
Become an expert in one or more CMS platform components or systems - and codify that expertise so AI agents can ramp on it (clear conventions, agent-readable docs).
Lead small-to-medium projects from inception to delivery, including scoping and coordination.
Identify and address complex technical issues - debugging, performance tuning, root-cause analysis.
Proactively improve development tooling, system efficiency, and reduce technical debt.
Mentor less senior engineers through code reviews, pairing, and knowledge sharing - including effective AI-augmented workflows.
Collaborate with partner teams to ensure seamless integrations and cohesive experiences.
Participate in on-call rotation, incident resolution, and RCAs.
Help grow the team through interviewing and onboarding new members.
QualificationsRequired
BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent applicable experience.
5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
Strong experience with Java (17+) / Spring Boot and TypeScript / React / Next.js.
Experience with Python, relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL), and CI/CD pipelines.
In-depth knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and software design patterns.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred
Experience with search tools like Solr and Elasticsearch.
Experience with message brokers (Kafka, GCP Pub/Sub) or cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes).
Nice-to-Have
Familiarity with content management domains or media/streaming platforms.
Experience with container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and DevOps practices.
Experience with technical writing and design documentation.
How We Work
AI coding tools (Claude, Cursor, Gemini, Copilot) are table stakes - we provide licenses and expect daily fluency. Agents draft, you direct and review. Senior engineers here also help shape how the team uses these tools well: encoding conventions, setting review patterns for agent-generated code, and mentoring juniors on judgment.

Paramount is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other characteristic protected by law.
