Ice Skating Public Skate Monitor

Looking for an opportunity to be paid to ice skate? Love the smell of the arena and the cold air on your face? Then this is the job for you!

Position Summary:

Guest Services Public Skate Monitors will be responsible for supporting guest admission, skate sharpening, and on-ice skate monitoring during public skate sessions to establish a premium customer-first and safe experience at Kraken Community Iceplex.

Responsibilities:

  • Get your daily work out handing out and returning skates, handing out and returning skate aids, relacing skates, and sharpening skates (awesome skill to have)
  • Be the ever-present Safety Ambassador on the ice during public skate sessions
  • Recognize and report dangerous conditions/situations while on the ice
  • Discourage dangerous skating
  • Assist injured skaters
  • Encourage fun during sessions i.e., control music, change direction of skating
  • Assist in keeping facility and ice clean
  • Assist Zamboni drivers with moving equipment on and off the ice and ensuring skaters move off the ice during ice cuts
  • Candidate might also run birthday parties as described in Party Host role

Required Experience & Qualifications:

  • Ice Skating proficiency
  • Guest service experience
  • Strong verbal communication skills to support customer experience and engagement
  • A high degree of personal integrity and consistently put the interests of the organization first
  • Must like interacting with children, be enthusiastic, reliable
  • Weekend shifts (Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays) are required

Preferred Experience & Qualifications:

  • Experience with youth sports at the recreational and elite level
  • Understanding of hockey and figure skating
  • Understanding of event and on-ice programming
  • Current Food Handler's Permit

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule. Weekends, nights, and holidays required.
  • Position involves sitting, standing, walking, stooping, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and ice skating.
  • Frequent bending, lifting 15-20 pounds, sitting, exposure to multiple external elements, extensive walking through the building including inclines and stairs.
  • Part-time hourly role.
  • Position available for individuals 16+
