Memory Care Director

Discovery Village at Naples Assisted Living Naples, Florida

Position Summary

Discovery Village at Naples Assisted Living is seeking a compassionate, experienced, and results-oriented Memory Care Director to lead and oversee all aspects of our Memory Care neighborhood. The Memory Care Director is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, engaging, person-centered environment that enhances the quality of life for residents living with Alzheimer's disease, dementia, and other cognitive impairments.

The successful candidate will provide leadership, training, and support to team members while ensuring compliance with state regulations, company policies, and industry best practices. This position serves as an advocate for residents and a trusted resource for families, fostering meaningful connections and delivering exceptional care experiences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Resident Care & Quality of Life

  • Develop, implement, and oversee individualized programming designed to meet the physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of memory care residents.
  • Promote resident dignity, independence, choice, and purpose through personalized care approaches.
  • Monitor resident well-being and collaborate with nursing staff, caregivers, and healthcare providers regarding changes in condition.
  • Conduct resident assessments and participate in service plan development and updates.
  • Ensure a safe and secure environment that supports residents with cognitive impairments.

Program Development

  • Plan and coordinate a robust calendar of therapeutic, recreational, educational, and sensory-focused activities.
  • Implement evidence-based dementia care practices and innovative memory care programming.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness and continuously improve resident engagement opportunities.
  • Foster meaningful resident and family involvement in community activities and events.

Team Leadership

  • Recruit, train, coach, supervise, and evaluate memory care associates.
  • Provide ongoing education regarding dementia care, behavioral interventions, communication techniques, and person-centered practices.
  • Lead team meetings and promote a culture of accountability, compassion, and excellence.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels to meet resident needs and maintain high service standards.

Family Relations

  • Build strong relationships with residents' families and serve as a primary point of contact for memory care concerns.
  • Conduct family meetings and provide education and support regarding dementia-related conditions and care approaches.
  • Address concerns promptly and professionally to maintain resident and family satisfaction.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations governing assisted living and memory care services.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records as required by regulatory agencies and company policies.
  • Participate in surveys, audits, and inspections and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Uphold community safety protocols and infection prevention standards.

Community Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Executive Director, Wellness Director, Activities Team, and other department leaders to ensure coordinated care and services.
  • Participate in community marketing events, tours, and outreach efforts as needed.
  • Contribute to occupancy goals through exceptional resident and family experiences.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Gerontology, Social Work, Recreation Therapy, Nursing, Human Services, or a related field preferred.
  • Relevant certifications in dementia care, Alzheimer's care, or therapeutic recreation are highly desirable.

Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of leadership experience in memory care, assisted living, senior living, healthcare, or a related setting.
  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals living with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.
  • Experience supervising, coaching, and developing staff.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Thorough understanding of dementia care principles, programming, and behavioral management techniques.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to build trust with residents, families, and team members.
  • Knowledge of Florida assisted living regulations and memory care requirements preferred.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and Microsoft Office applications.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the community for extended periods.
  • Ability to assist during resident activities and emergency situations.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
