Petroleum Engineer

FLSA Status: Salary, Exempt

Salary: BOE

Location: Hobbs NM, Perryton, TX, and Woodward, OK

This role is designed to provide comprehensive training that lays the foundation for a long-term career with Mewbourne Oil Company. Over the course of approximately 3‑ to 5‑year training period, you will gain exposure to all key operational disciplines, including drilling, completions, production, and HSE. Mewbourne Oil Company is committed to developing well‑rounded engineers, and our “boots on the ground” philosophy places operations engineers as close to the wellsite as possible to streamline supervision and promote efficient, responsible operations.

Possible Ares of Responsibility:

  • Drilling: design and supervise the drilling process, select the drilling techniques, equipment, and materials needed.
  • Completion: Design and wellsite supervision of perforating, hydraulic fracturing, acidizing, and drill-outs. Material sourcing and logistics related to each.
  • Production: monitor production rates and implement strategies to maximize extraction efficiency. This may involve artificial lift design, surface equipment design, chemical program design, evaluation of compression, emission control design, automation, troubleshooting problems such as equipment malfunctions or wellbore integrity issues. Design facilities for separation and measurement of oil, gas, and water. Coordinate pipeline connections to midstream providers.

Possible Additional Duties:

  • Troubleshoot problems related to each discipline.
  • Analyze data and performance metrics to drive future efficiency gains.
  • Write procedures and AFEs for projects. Manage project budgets and expenses by estimating costs for equipment, materials, and labor. Identify cost-saving opportunities and strive to optimize project economics.
  • Stay up to date on industry advancements and research new technologies to improve extraction techniques, increase production rates, and reduce environmental impact.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including geologists, landmen, drilling crews, and environmental scientists, to achieve project objectives collaboratively.
  • Maintain detailed records of operations, including drilling logs, production data, and environmental monitoring reports, and prepare technical reports and presentations for management and regulatory agencies.
