Job description

Do you enjoy working outdoors? Come work as a Park Ranger in one of the Pinellas County parks, providing a safe, clean and enjoyable experience for patrons using Pinellas County Parks and Conservation Resources (PCR) facilities throughout the County.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: assisting the public by providing information, directions, guidance and first-aid ; performing direct public contact work in the operation, maintenance, and security of an assigned park or park facility, interpreting and enforcing rules and regulations; maintaining grounds, buildings, and appurtenances; may perform grounds and landscape maintenance tasks and facility maintenance; performing routine driving and maintenance of vehicles and uses of radio communications; enforcing rules and regulations per Chapter 90, Pinellas County Ordinances, and issuing citations for park ordinance violations per Chapter 122, Pinellas County Ordinances.
This Park Ranger 1 position is located at: Philippe Park, 2525 Philippe Parkway, Safety Harbor, FL 34695.
Work Schedule: Wednesday - Saturday; (P.M. Shift); Shift - 4-days/10 hours.
What Will You Do?
  • Ensure parking fee compliance, conduct surveys and conduct attendance counts.
  • Monitor and maintain appearances, cleanliness and sanitary condition of all PCR facilities including restrooms.
  • Maintain equipment necessary to perform job tasks.
  • Interpret Park ecology to visitors; respond to inquiries.
  • Enforce Chapter 90 Ordinance: issues citations as necessary.
  • Performs related work as assigned or required.

What Do You Need?
  • At least 1 year of experience in general maintenance, landscaping, park operations or related direct public contact work.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Driver's License upon hire with eligibility based upon evaluation of a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) driving report.
  • Must be able to work holidays, nights and weekends.
  • Must obtain certification as a Parking Enforcement Specialist as outlined in Chapter 316, Florida Statutes within one year of employment (training provided by management).
  • Must obtain within six months of hire valid certificates indicating successful completion of First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) (Training provided by management).
  • Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special emergency, and/or disaster situations.

Highly Desirable
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to work outside under a variety of weather conditions.
  • Ability to enforce PCR rules and county ordinances.
