What is a live in nanny?

A Live-In Nanny is a childcare provider who resides with the family they work for, offering full-time support in caring for children. Their responsibilities typically include feeding, bathing, engaging in educational activities, and assisting with household tasks related to the children. This arrangement often provides more flexibility for parents, as the nanny is available for early mornings, evenings, or emergencies. In exchange for their services, live-in nannies usually receive room and board in addition to a salary. The specific duties and expectations depend on the family's needs and the nanny's contract.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a live in nanny?

To thrive as a Live In Nanny, you need childcare experience, basic first aid and CPR certification, and a proven ability to manage household routines. Familiarity with schedules, meal planning, and child safety protocols, as well as use of communication logs or childcare apps, is often required. Strong interpersonal skills, patience, reliability, and cultural sensitivity help build positive relationships with families. These skills ensure children's well-being, seamless household operations, and trust between nanny and employer.

What are the typical working hours and expectations for live in nannies?

Live-in nannies usually have more flexible schedules than live-out nannies, often covering early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends depending on the family's needs. While you generally have room and board provided, it's common for families to outline defined 'on-duty' hours, along with agreed-upon time off for rest and personal activities. Responsibilities can range from supervising children's daily routines, assisting with homework, meal preparation, to light housekeeping related to the children. Open communication with your employer about duties and boundaries is key to maintaining a healthy work-life balance in this role.

How do I become a live-in nanny?

To become a live-in nanny, you typically need relevant childcare experience, a clean background check, and sometimes CPR or first aid certification. You should search for job listings, prepare a resume highlighting your childcare skills, and be ready to discuss your availability and experience during interviews. Having good communication skills and flexibility is also important for this role.

How much do live-in nannies earn?

Live-in nannies typically earn between $400 and $800 per week, depending on experience, responsibilities, and location. They often receive room and board as part of their compensation and may earn additional benefits or bonuses for extended hours or specialized skills.

Is being a live-in nanny worth it?

Being a live-in nanny can be worth it for those seeking a stable position with room and board included, as well as the opportunity to develop childcare skills. However, it often involves long hours, limited personal space, and a high level of responsibility, which should be considered when evaluating its value.

Job description

Play, Imagination & Adventure: Nanny Needed for Two Young Children in Roswell

A fun-loving family in Roswell is looking for an energetic, nurturing nanny to care for their two young children, ages 4 and 2½. This is a home where imagination runs wild, superheroes are always welcome, and getting outside to play is a big part of the day! Their ideal nanny is playful, silly, affectionate, and engaging — someone who will jump into imaginary play, enjoy sports and outdoor adventures, and encourage the children's creativity through arts, crafts, gymnastics, and age-appropriate activities. One child is more reserved and sensitive and takes some time to warm up, while the other is social, outgoing, and full of personality. The family is looking for someone who can be both nurturing and confidently firm, using calm, consistent discipline without yelling or physical punishment. A Montessori-inspired approach is appreciated, and Spanish-speaking candidates who would enjoy teaching the children Spanish would be a huge plus. Before the 2:00 PM school pickup, the nanny will focus on light house management, including children's laundry, changing bed sheets, loading and unloading the dishwasher, wiping counters, vacuuming, Swiffering, tidying, organizing and rotating toys, meal prep, occasional family cooking, errands, and keeping an eye on household supplies. The family especially values someone who naturally notices what needs to be done and takes initiative.

After school, the nanny will pick the children up from school, located just minutes from home, and spend the afternoon creating a fun, active, and engaging environment. The family would love someone who is proactive about finding afternoon activities and classes such as gymnastics, sports, or creative programs and who enjoys getting the children outside and involved rather than simply entertaining them. During school breaks, full-day care may be needed, and occasional weekend help, vacation travel, and overnight support would be a wonderful bonus but are not required. The family is looking for someone genuine, loyal, dependable, and communicative who is comfortable working with two parents with different personalities and communication styles. They appreciate someone who communicates clearly without being overly talkative, respects the family's privacy, and is comfortable taking initiative. The family is currently renovating their home, so flexibility and adaptability are important. Above all, they want someone who shares their simple family philosophy: be safe, be kind, and have fun.
