How much do live in nanny jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 15, 2026, the average yearly pay for live in nanny in Michigan is $53,323.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $34,900.00 and $69,300.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the typical working hours and expectations for live-in nannies?

Live-in nannies usually have more flexible schedules than live-out nannies, often covering early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends depending on the family's needs. While you generally have room and board provided, it's common for families to outline defined 'on-duty' hours, along with agreed-upon time off for rest and personal activities. Responsibilities can range from supervising children's daily routines, assisting with homework, meal preparation, to light housekeeping related to the children. Open communication with your employer about duties and boundaries is key to maintaining a healthy work-life balance in this role.

How much do live-in nannies earn?

Live-in nannies typically earn between $400 and $800 per week, depending on experience, responsibilities, and location. They often receive room and board as part of their compensation and may earn additional benefits or bonuses for extra duties or overtime.

Can you have a live-in nanny?

A live-in nanny is a professional caregiver who resides in the employer's home to provide childcare and household assistance. This arrangement often requires a private living space, clear work hours, and sometimes a formal contract or background check. It is a common setup for families needing consistent, around-the-clock childcare support.

What is a Live In Nanny job?

A Live-In Nanny is a childcare provider who resides with the family they work for, offering full-time support in caring for children. Their responsibilities typically include feeding, bathing, engaging in educational activities, and assisting with household tasks related to the children. This arrangement often provides more flexibility for parents, as the nanny is available for early mornings, evenings, or emergencies. In exchange for their services, live-in nannies usually receive room and board in addition to a salary. The specific duties and expectations depend on the family's needs and the nanny's contract.

How does a live-in nanny get paid?

A live-in nanny is typically paid through a regular salary, often on a weekly or biweekly basis, and may include benefits such as room and board. Payment methods can include checks, direct deposit, or cash, depending on the employer's preference and local employment laws. Nannies may also receive overtime pay for extra hours worked and should have a written employment agreement outlining compensation details.

Is live-in nanny cheaper than live-out?

Live-in nannies are often less expensive on a weekly basis because they typically receive room and board as part of their compensation, reducing cash wages. However, the overall cost may be higher due to additional expenses like housing, food, and benefits, making the total cost comparable or sometimes more than a live-out nanny who is paid solely in wages. The choice depends on the employer's preferences and budget considerations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Live In Nanny position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Live In Nanny, you need childcare experience, basic first aid and CPR certification, and a proven ability to manage household routines. Familiarity with schedules, meal planning, and child safety protocols, as well as use of communication logs or childcare apps, is often required. Strong interpersonal skills, patience, reliability, and cultural sensitivity help build positive relationships with families. These skills ensure children's well-being, seamless household operations, and trust between nanny and employer.

Job description

A warm, loving family in Canton, Michigan, is seeking an experienced, energetic, and professional live-in nanny to care for their two delightful daughters, ages 4.5 and 2.5. This is a wonderful opportunity for a nurturing childcare professional who enjoys becoming an integral part of a family's support system while maintaining a high level of professionalism and flexibility.

The position is expected to run through July 2027, with the potential for an extension depending on the family's future needs. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, with coverage from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. to assist with the morning routine and daycare drop-off, and again from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for the evening routine. A monthly schedule will be provided in advance whenever possible, and the family will guarantee 40 hours per week. Because both parents are physicians, occasional overnight coverage may be required if they are unexpectedly called into work, so flexibility and adaptability are essential.

The nanny will enjoy comfortable live-in accommodations, including a private bedroom and bathroom located in a separate area of the home that offers a degree of privacy. A small SUV will be provided for all child-related transportation and responsibilities.

The family is seeking a dependable, engaging, and proactive nanny who is passionate about early childhood development, thrives in a collaborative household, and is excited to build a meaningful relationship with the family over the course of this assignment. Relocation assistance is available for the right candidate.

  • Research local age-appropriate activities ahead of travel
  • Ability to travel with the family would be a plus
  • Nurture creativity and create an environment that fosters independence, intelligence, and curiosity
  • Address big feelings and lovingly guide the children through moments, making them part of the solution
  • Pack/unpack for travel and outings
  • Limit screen time and create fun transitions
  • Occasional household errand running, such as grocery shopping and picking up items for the children
