Job description

Job Summary:

Piper Fire is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Fire Sprinkler Designer to join our fire protection team. This role is critical in ensuring the safety and compliance of fire suppression systems across commercial, industrial, and residential projects. The ideal candidate will have proven ability to operate independently in a fast-paced environment & have a strong background in fire protection design, proficiency in CAD software, and a solid understanding of NFPA standards. 

This is an in-person role, Monday - Friday at the Sarasota, FL office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and layout fire sprinkler systems using AutoCAD or specialized CAD platforms (e.g., HydraCAD, AutoSPRINK).
  • Perform hydraulic calculations to ensure system efficiency and code compliance.
  • Interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical drawings to integrate sprinkler systems seamlessly.
  • Apply NFPA 13 and other relevant codes to system design based on building type, occupancy, and hazard classification.
  • Prepare detailed shop drawings, material lists, and submittals for approval.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and AHJs throughout the design and installation process.
  • Conduct field surveys and inspections to verify design accuracy and support installation teams.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records for permitting, inspections, and project closeout.
  • Participate in design review meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Primarily office-based with occasional field visits.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in commercial fire sprinkler system design.
  • NICET Level II or higher certification in Water-Based Systems Layout preferred.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with Revit, SprinkCAD, or HydraCAD is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of NFPA 13, IBC, IFC, and other applicable codes.
  • Ability to perform hydraulic calculations and use design software tools effectively.
  • Comfortable working independently while meeting deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to travel to project sites for surveys or inspections.
  • Ability to meet company driving eligibility requirements, including holding a valid driver's license and maintaining an acceptable motor vehicle record.
