Job Description
Job Title: Custodian Status: Part time (25 hours/week)
Exemption Status: Non-Exempt
Department/Location: St. Anthony of Padua School / Casa Grande, AZ
Primary Function: Under the direction of the Pastor, School Principal, or other assigned manager is responsible for performing janitorial services and light maintenance in the parochial school. The Employee shall be a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching behaviorally while at work and in his/her personal life, "...Live in a manner worthy of the call you have received." (Eph. 4:1)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the Church's spiritual and pastoral mission.
  • Shall abide by Catholic principles in the employee's professional and private life and shall govern his/her professional and private life in strict accordance with Catholic morals and principles to demonstrate complete adherence to Catholic moral strictures.
  • Develop a cleaning schedule to ensure the School is clean and maintained in an orderly fashion.
  • Perform general custodial duties to include cleaning and light maintenance of the school facilities and internal and external surroundings.
  • Perform scheduled monthly, semi-annual, or annual janitorial duties, i.e., floor waxing, painting, window washing, carpet cleaning, power washing, etc. as directed and in accordance with the parish maintenance schedule.
  • Perform light maintenance i.e., Change lightbulbs and batteries, fix doorknobs, maintain playground equipment, leaf blowing, move furniture, etc.
  • Provide set-up and cleaning of facilities for all activities as directed.
  • Keep track of cleaning supplies and equipment; properly account for materials and equipment making requests for ordering through the office
  • Maintain the security of buildings, equipment, and tools
  • Comply with safety regulations as required; maintain a safe working environment.
  • Assist the Landscapers as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical/Mental Requirements: Requires coordination and manual dexterity; normal mental and visual ability; ability to lift as required in a normal maintenance environment.
Required Activities: Walking: sitting; standing; stooping; reaching; talking; handling; hearing; carrying; and climbing ladders.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Must have a working knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of the Diocese and Catholic Church; must be in full communion with the Catholic Church
  • Excellent communications skills, verbal and written; excellent human relations and interpersonal skills.
  • Exercise courtesy to fellow employees, parishioners, and the public
  • Must be a self-starter; well organized; perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment; punctuality is a must; ability to travel locally as required; weekend and overtime work may be required.
  • Working familiarity with computer technology
  • Ability to successfully pass a background, criminal history, and credit history check.
  • Possess a valid Arizona driver's license.
  • Be able to read directions and label safety warnings. Must be safety conscious.
  • Knowledge, skills and experience in handling janitorial equipment and maintenance tools
  • Professional bearing; clean and neat personal appearance

Education and Experience:
  • High school graduate or equivalent education
  • 1 years' experience in a commercial or private maintenance, janitorial or similar position

Other/Preferred Skills
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
