Schedule: Primarily Sundays, with weekday rehearsals and additional services as needed
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Catholic Music Director to plan, coordinate, and lead music for Catholic worship services. The Music Director will work closely with church leadership to provide meaningful and well-prepared music for weekly Masses, special services, Holy Days, funerals, memorials, and other religious events.
The ideal candidate will have strong musical leadership skills, experience directing choirs or worship teams, and the ability to play a lead instrument such as piano, keyboard, or guitar.
Responsibilities
  • Plan and select appropriate music for Catholic worship services.
  • Lead music for weekly Masses and special religious services.
  • Play piano, keyboard, guitar, or another suitable lead instrument.
  • Accompany singers, soloists, choirs, and volunteer musicians.
  • Organize and lead weekly rehearsals.
  • Recruit and coordinate volunteer musicians and singers.
  • Direct choirs, praise teams, and other musical groups.
  • Prepare music for preludes, postludes, congregational singing, and special performances.
  • Prepare song lyrics or presentation materials when needed.
  • Set up and coordinate microphones, music stands, instruments, and related music equipment.
  • Arrive early enough to ensure all music and equipment are properly prepared before services and rehearsals.
  • Maintain an organized and professional music program.
  • Keep music areas and equipment clean and orderly after rehearsals and services.
  • Coordinate regularly with church leadership regarding upcoming services, events, and music needs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years of experience leading or playing music in a church, chapel, or similar worship environment.
  • Ability to read sheet music.
  • Knowledge of vocal harmony and music arrangement.
  • Ability to play piano, keyboard, guitar, or another appropriate lead instrument.
  • Experience working with singers, choirs, and musicians.
  • Familiarity with music commonly used in Catholic worship.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with volunteers and individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Must be dependable, professional, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
