Energy & Natural Resources Associate Attorney

Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Salary: $235,000–$365,000

Direct Counsel is seeking an Energy & Natural Resources Associate Attorney to join a leading global law firm'sEnergy & Natural Resources practice in Pittsburgh. This opportunity is ideal for a mid-level associate with 3–5 years of experience in oil and gas litigation, with exposure to environmental and regulatory litigation preferred.

The successful candidate will work on sophisticated energy-related disputes and will have the opportunity to develop increasing responsibility toward independently managing matters. Familiarity with oil and gas law and the oil and gas industry in the Appalachian Basin is highly valued.

Responsibilities
  • Represent clients in oil and gas litigation matters.

  • Assist with environmental and regulatory litigation matters.

  • Draft preliminary and dispositive motions and discovery responses.

  • Conduct legal research and assist with developing case strategy.

  • Manage document review and production projects of varying sizes and complexity.

  • Assist with preparation for depositions, including both offensive and defensive deposition preparation.

  • Work with partners and senior attorneys on complex litigation matters.

  • Communicate and coordinate with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and other litigation professionals.

  • Manage assigned litigation workstreams and meet case deadlines.

  • Take increasing ownership of matters with the goal of independently managing litigation cases.

  • Collaborate with attorneys and legal support professionals across the firm's Energy & Natural Resources and litigation practices.

Qualifications
  • J.D. from an accredited law school.

  • 3–5 years of experience, ideally focused on oil and gas litigation.

  • Exposure to environmental and regulatory litigation is preferred.

  • Familiarity with fundamental oil and gas law principles and the oil and gas industry in the Appalachian Basin.

  • Experience drafting preliminary and dispositive motions.

  • Experience drafting discovery responses.

  • Experience handling document review and production projects.

  • Experience assisting with both offensive and defensive deposition preparation.

  • Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and organizational skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

  • Strong interest in developing the skills necessary to independently manage litigation matters.

  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

  • Active Pennsylvania Bar admission, eligibility to waive into Pennsylvania, or eligibility to sit for the Pennsylvania Bar required.
