Job description

Overview
VTG is seeking an experienced Linux Network Engineer with 4+ years of hands-on expertise in designing, implementing, testing, monitoring, and troubleshooting LAN, VLAN and VxLAN environments. This role combines technical expertise in network architecture, switch configuration, and infrastructure operations to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and security of our network infrastructure. The successful candidate will take ownership of network implementation projects, provide technical support for complex network issues, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our networking environment.
This position is located in Manassas, VA. This position is a hybrid position with remote work options and flexible schedules.
What will you do?
The selected candidate will work with network technologies to further advance the capabilities of the Navy submarine combat system. This work will include:
  • Design and implementation of VLAN and VxLAN
  • Configure and deploy network switch
  • Test and validate prior to deployment
  • Monitor and troubleshoot
  • Maintain comprehensive network documentation including topology diagrams, configuration baselines, runbooks and all network and switch changes

Do you have what it takes?
Required skills:
  • Must have a 4 yr degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 4+ years of experience as a Network Engineer
  • 2-4 years of Linux experience
  • Must have Network design/system architect experience including tuning low-level networks
  • Demonstrated expertise designing, implementing, and troubleshooting LAN and VLAN networks at L2/L3 levels
  • Proven hands-on experience developing and implementing switch configurations
  • Experience with network devices from major vendors (Cisco, Juniper, Arista, or equivalent)
  • Hands-on proficiency with network monitoring and diagnostic tools
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Initiative, innovation, and resourcefulness.
  • US Citizen with current SECRET Clearance or ability to obtain a SECRET clearance
  • Successful completion of background check

Desired Qualifications/Skills/Abilities:
  • Understanding of OSI and TCP/IP networking models
  • Understanding Layer 2 protocols
  • Solid knowledge of Layer 3 routing concepts and protocols
  • Proficiency with VPN technologies, firewall rules, and network security fundamentals
  • Working knowledge of DNS, DHCP, and network address management
  • Understanding of high-availability and disaster recovery concepts
