Job description

Position Summary...Are you driven to design durable, scalable, and well-governed cloud platforms that stand the test of time? Join the Walmart/VIZIO Team as a Principal Cloud Infrastructure & Platform Engineer, where you will lead large-scale multi-cloud migration and modernization efforts across AWS, GCP, and Azure, while shaping infrastructure, automation, security, and FinOps practices in equal measure. This is a highly technical, hands-on principal role for an engineer who sets standards, leads by example, and brings rigor, clarity, and best practices to complex cloud environments. What you'll do...About the Team
The Walmart/VIZIO Team is responsible for enabling and operating secure, scalable, and cost-aware cloud platforms that support critical business systems. We work across Engineering, Security, Finance, and Platform teams to modernize infrastructure, migrate workloads, enforce governance, and reduce operational risk. Our mandate is not just to build infrastructure—but to build it correctly, with consistency, automation, and long-term sustainability in mind.
This Principal role brings together cloud migration leadership, infrastructure architecture, automation, security remediation, and FinOps enablement into a single senior technical authority.
What You’ll Do
Cloud Migration & Architecture Leadership

  • Lead the migration and modernization of a large portfolio of applications and databases from AWS to GCP and Azure, ensuring reliability, security, and minimal disruption.

  • Design target-state architectures and migration patterns that balance scalability, resilience, cost, and operational simplicity.

  • Evaluate cloud-native services and guide architectural tradeoffs across AWS, GCP, and Azure.

  • Establish reference architectures, landing zone standards, and platform patterns used across the organization.

Infrastructure as Code & Platform Automation
  • Architect, build, and maintain complex, reusable Infrastructure-as-Code solutions using Terraform and Terragrunt.
  • Develop Python and Bash automation to support infrastructure lifecycle management, migrations, governance, and operational workflows.
  • Drive consistency and quality through shared modules, versioning strategies, and code review standards.
  • Integrate IaC and automation into CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and related tooling.

Containers, CI/CD & Modernization
  • Drive containerization and platform adoption using Docker and Kubernetes, enabling scalable and resilient application deployments.
  • Design and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines that support fast, safe, and repeatable infrastructure and application delivery.
  • Improve observability, reliability, and operability through automation and standardized tooling.

Security, Compliance & Governance (SecOps)
  • Build automation and guardrails to remediate security findings and enforce configuration baselines across all cloud providers.
  • Partner closely with Security teams to embed security best practices into IaC, pipelines, and platform standards.
  • Support continuous compliance through asset discovery, inventory management, and policy validation tooling.

FinOps Enablement (Equal Focus)
  • Incorporate cost awareness and financial accountability into infrastructure design, migrations, and automation.
  • Support tagging standards, cost allocation models, and usage visibility across AWS, GCP, and Azure.
  • Partner with FinOps and Finance teams to ensure infrastructure decisions reflect both technical and financial best practices.

Operational Excellence & Technical Leadership
  • Provide hands-on Linux system administration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting when needed.
  • Maintain high-quality documentation, runbooks, and architectural decision records.
  • Serve as a principal-level mentor and technical leader through design reviews, code reviews, and cross-team collaboration.
  • Champion best practices, consistency, and long-term maintainability across all infrastructure efforts.
About You
You are a senior-level engineer with a deep sense of ownership and a passion for building infrastructure the right way. You bring:
  • Extensive hands-on experience with AWS, plus strong experience with GCP and/or Azure, ideally in migration scenarios.
  • Deep expertise in Terraform, including the design of modular, reusable IaC systems; experience with Terragrunt is strongly preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and Bash for automation, tooling, and operational workflows.
  • Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes in production environments.
  • A solid foundation in Linux system administration, performance optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, ideally using GitHub Actions.
  • A strong understanding of cloud security principles, compliance requirements, and SecOps workflows.
  • Practical experience incorporating FinOps principles into infrastructure and platform design.
  • A documentation-first mindset, with a commitment to clarity, accuracy, and discoverability.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage complex, multi-track initiatives.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence without authority.
  • A passion for mentorship, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

As a Principal Engineer, you will shape how Walmart/VIZIO builds, migrates, secures, and operates cloud infrastructure across multiple providers. Your work will define standards, reduce risk, enable teams, and ensure our platforms are scalable, secure, cost-aware, and sustainable for years to come. If you thrive in complex environments and care deeply about engineering excellence, this role offers both influence and impact.
