Director of Sales - United States Remote | Premium Food & Consumer Packaged Goods
MacDonald Search Group has been retained by a rapidly growing premium food manufacturer to recruit a Director of Sales - United States.
This newly created role has been established to support continued growth and expansion across the U.S. market. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Sales, the Director of Sales will be responsible for driving profitable revenue growth, developing strategic customer relationships, and executing commercial initiatives across a portfolio of key retail, distributor, and foodservice accounts.
This is a highly visible player-coach leadership position that combines strategic sales leadership with direct ownership of major customer relationships. The successful candidate will help shape commercial strategy while personally managing a portfolio of key accounts within either the Eastern or Western United States.
Key ResponsibilitiesSales Strategy & Growth
  • Develop and execute sales strategies that drive revenue, market share, and profitability.
  • Identify new business opportunities across retail, distributor, wholesale, and foodservice channels.
  • Monitor market trends, customer needs, competitive activity, and emerging opportunities.
  • Translate company objectives into actionable customer and channel plans.
Key Account Management
  • Directly manage a portfolio of strategic customer accounts across the United States.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with retailers, distributors, brokers, and key decision-makers.
  • Lead annual business planning, pricing discussions, contract negotiations, and customer reviews.
  • Drive profitable growth through distribution expansion, promotional planning, and customer development initiatives.
Commercial Leadership
  • Act as a trusted advisor to customers while representing the voice of the market internally.
  • Support new product launches and commercialization initiatives.
  • Provide customer and market insights to support innovation and portfolio development.
  • Contribute to long-term strategic planning and growth initiatives.
Forecasting & Business Planning
  • Lead forecasting, budgeting, and customer planning activities.
  • Monitor sales performance, trade spending, and profitability metrics.
  • Utilize CRM and reporting tools to improve visibility and business decision-making.
  • Ensure accurate forecasting to support supply chain and operational planning.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner closely with Supply Chain, Production, S&OP, Marketing, Finance, and R&D teams.
  • Align customer demand with production capacity and inventory planning.
  • Support successful execution of product launches, promotions, and customer programs.
  • Drive collaboration across functions to ensure exceptional customer service and execution.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of progressive sales leadership experience within consumer packaged goods.
  • Proven success managing and growing strategic retail and distributor accounts.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. retail, broker, and distributor networks.
  • Experience with pricing strategy, trade spending, forecasting, and customer profitability management.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive results.
  • Strong negotiation, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience within natural, organic, specialty, or premium food categories is considered a strong asset.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field preferred.
