Position Summary

The Virtual Design Construction Specialist is responsible for carrying out assigned pre-construction tasks effectively and efficiently, while adhering to company standards and actively participating in continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

A VDC Specialist I is responsible for the following:

  • Produces, edits, and coordinates 3D object-oriented models
  • Produces, annotates, and details fabrication and field installation shop drawings
  • Participates in the development of, and provides feedback for, the continuous improvement of workflows and standard operating procedures
  • Identifies model related issues to the project team
  • Maintains regular contact with their project team
  • Develops a basic knowledge of BIM software, 3D design, and construction documents
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management


A VDC Specialist II is responsible for VDC Specialist I activities and the following:

  • Acts as a mentor to newer team members
  • Attends and participates in virtual construction, clash detection, and coordination meetings
  • Seeks ways to infuse quality and labor savings into overall Building Information Modeling (BIM) efforts
  • Assists in the development and continuous improvement of the company's BIM related goals, initiatives, and standards
  • Assists in developing new ways to utilize model-based information in various phases of projects


A VDC Specialist III is responsible for VDC Specialist I and II activities and the following:

  • Acts as a mentor/leader within projects teams and within the department as a whole
  • Provides continuous peer feedback, evaluates current workflows for efficiency, and shares best practices to encourage personal and professional peer development
  • Acts as the point of contact in virtual construction, clash detection, and coordination meetings, communicating and delegating pertinent information to the project team.
  • Develops and maintains professional relationships with designers, owners, and sub-contractors


A VDC Specialist IV is responsible for VDC Specialist I, II and III activities and the following:

  • Participates in identifying and strategizing the execution of all project modeling requirements
  • Ensures Revit project set up is correct and in line with company standards
  • Creates, maintains, and ensures the accuracy of all BIM related schedules and bill of materials
  • Maintains, monitors, and QCs the health of project BIM models
  • Ensures all team members understand and adhere to assigned scope of work, project requirements, specs, deliverables, schedule, and department standards


Qualifications

Education

  • Associate's degree in Computer Aided Drafting and Design or similar, preferred

Required

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in:
    • Reading floor plans, sections, and elevations
    • BIM360, Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel, and Outlook, Navisworks, Revit, and file sharing platforms
      • Above required for VDC II and higher
  • Demonstrated competency modeling from a 2D document to produce a 3D model

  • Construction experience
  • Effective interoffice collaboration
  • Skilled problem-solving ability and a strong sense of urgency
  • Efficient organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment


Skills & Competencies

  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with design or marketing tools (Canva, Adobe, or similar) is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
