NOTICE OF JOB POSTING


POSITION TITLE: LIGHT EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

DPW - WATER DIVISION

AFSCME LOCAL 1700 - GRADE 7

FULL-TIME (40 HOURS PER WEEK)

FULL PAY RANGE (07/01/2026): $22.6972 TO $30.5073 PER HOUR PLUS ADDITIONAL STIPENDS FOR LICENSES


POSITION OVERVIEW:

  • General laboring work, requiring some skills such as pipe laying, installing water services, replacing valves and, in emergencies, installing water meters and reading water meters
  • Will be able to operate a compressor, jack hammer, water pump, repair leaks, dig trenches by hand, tap water mains, drive truck, repair or replace street valves
  • Assist in repairing equipment and cleaning of the garage and stockroom
  • Be on call for emergencies and will do all work as assigned or required by the Superintendent
  • Answers directly to the Water Superintendent. In the absence of the Water Superintendent, will answer directly to the Foreman; in the absence of both the Water Superintendent and the Foreman, will answer directly to the Lead Man


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Massachusetts Driver's License


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma, trade school education, or equivalent training and experience.
