MetroLagoons is hiring for a FT Lifeguard Supervisor. This is an hourly position, reporting to the Manager of Water Safety, and is directly responsible for the safety of all guests and team members.

JOB SUMMARY:ย The Lifeguard Supervisor assists in managing the operation of the Lagoon pool area, including conducting basic lifeguarding duties and leading the lifeguard team in daily activities, as well as training and audits.ย  Work will be performed primarily outdoors.ย  This is a hands-on position, and the successful candidate will both direct and participate in tasks with the Water Safety team. This position is directly responsible for guest safety.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Responsible for leading the team that performs the following tasks: operates all water attractions and ensures guest safety, responds to emergencies, and provides First Aid as needed
  • Performs opening and closing duties including minor pool maintenance, attraction pre-operation checks and attraction testing
  • Maintains area cleanliness and quality including trash removal, hosing, etc.
  • Enforces all facility safety guidelines
  • Responds to guests in distress and provides First Aid
  • Maintains inventory and re-orders supplies and equipment
  • Create schedules, prepare, and review reports, checklists, and other paperwork
  • Assesses employees' progress: coaches with positive reinforcement and disciplines, when necessary, fairly, and consistently
  • Provides and models excellent customer service
  • Manages daily budget hours and works with leadership to revise and develop changes as needed
  • Regularly test ride attractions to ensure the safety of guests
  • Other assigned duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma, Degree or degree seeking (preferred)
  • Minimum two years supervisory experience (preferred)
  • Minimum two years lifeguard experience (required)
  • Must pass Swim Test (Details below) and obtain American Red Cross Lifeguard Certificationย (Training provided), current ARC. (Required)
  • LG Certification (preferred)
  • Flexible availability, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Shifts may vary based on business needs
  • Efficient, well organized, and able to handle a variety of duties simultaneously
  • Professional manner, discretion, and appearance
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Must be comfortable standing/walking for long periods of time outdoors in and around water, including elevated areas in all weather conditions

American Red Cross Lifeguard Swim Test:

Event 1: Swim-Tread-Swim

  • Jump into the water from the side, fully submerge, recover to the surface, and swim 150 yards
  • After swimming 150 yards, maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading, without support
  • After treading for 2 minutes, swim an additional 50 yards
  • While swimming, you must keep your face in the water and demonstrate proper breath control
  • You may use front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both. Swimming on the back or side is not permitted
  • Swim goggles are allowed
  • While treading, you must only use your legs, keeping your hands placed under your armpits, and your head must remain above the water

Event 2: Timed Event

  • Arrange a 20-yard swim distance and place a 10-pound object at a minimum depth of 7 to 10 feet (consistent with the maximum water depth for training)
  • Goggles are not permitted for this event
  • You have 1 minute, 40 seconds to complete the following:
    1. Swim 20 yards (your face may be in or out of the water)
    2. Perform a surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object
    3. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on your back to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping your face at or near the surface. Swimming underwater during this distance is not allowed
    4. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps

You must be able to work indoors in a high-temperature environment while standing for extended periods of time.

This position is located where temperatures and humidity can be extreme.ย  In addition, you will be exposed to heat, cold, rain, etc. while on property.
