Starting Pay: $15.00

  • Sign-On Bonus
    • We're pleased to offer a $1,200 sign-on bonus for newly hired Lifeguards, paid in three installments at 3, 6, and 12 months of continuous employment. To qualify, candidates must obtain American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification within 90 days of hire, maintain an average of at least 5 hours per week, and remain in good standing with satisfactory attendance and policy compliance. Rehires who have worked as a Lifeguard at the South Bend Kroc Center within the past 12 months are not eligible.

Job Objective:

Asa Lifeguardyou willmonitoractivities,observeandprovideassistancetoswimmers, prevent accidents, protectlifeand enforce regulations as well as control access to pools, family locker rooms, and lockers.All thisis donewhile ensuringthat theMission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.

What You Will Do:

  • Must be able to analyze situations and adopt a quick and effective course of action;maintainconstant observation of an assigned area toidentifyany signs of danger.
  • Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning.
  • Provide first aid, rescuebreathing,and CPR when necessary.
  • Inspect andmaintaincleanliness of swimming pool areas, locker rooms, restrooms, trash cans, cleaning equipment, aquatic equipment storage areas, and other areas as assigned.
  • Follow and enforce the equipment checkout program. Report defects, necessary repairs, etc.
  • See that all equipment assigned to the aquatic facilities ismaintainedand properly inventoried on a regular basis.
  • Other tasks as assigned byleadership

Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilitiesrequiredfor this position.

Education:Must be at least 16 years of age

Background Checks:Position requires a background check to be completedif 18+ years of age. Findings may disqualify an individual for thisposition

Certifications:

  • American Red Cross CPR and First Aid for the Professional Rescuer.AED certificationis highlydesirable.
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification required or ability to receive within six months.
  • American Red Cross Oxygen Administration certification highly desirable.
  • Must completeSafefromHarm trainingwithin the first90daysof employment.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Abletospeak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, andclientele
  • Computerproficiencywith Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reportingsystems
  • Must be able to read,writeand communicate in English. Ability to speak Spanish desired.
  • Must be able to work varied shifts including early mornings, evenings, weekends,holidaysand split shifts.
