Life Insurance Intern information

What does a life insurance intern do?

A Life Insurance Intern typically assists insurance companies or agencies with various tasks such as supporting sales teams, helping with policy administration, conducting market research, and learning about underwriting processes. Interns may also interact with clients, assist in preparing policy documents, and participate in training sessions to better understand life insurance products and regulations. The internship provides valuable exposure to the insurance industry and an opportunity to develop skills relevant to a career in financial services.

What types of projects or tasks are typically assigned to a life insurance intern during their internship?

Life Insurance Interns are often involved in a variety of tasks that provide a comprehensive overview of the insurance industry. Typical responsibilities may include assisting with policy administration, analyzing client data, supporting underwriters in risk assessment, and participating in sales or client service initiatives. Interns frequently collaborate with experienced agents, actuaries, and customer service teams, gaining exposure to both the operational and client-facing sides of the business. This hands-on experience is designed to help interns develop practical skills and build a strong foundation for future roles within the insurance sector.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a life insurance intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Life Insurance Intern, a solid foundation in finance, business, or related fields—often supported by current enrollment in an undergraduate program—is essential. Familiarity with CRM software, Microsoft Office Suite, and basic data analysis tools is typically expected. Strong communication, attention to detail, and eagerness to learn help interns excel in supporting agents and interacting with clients. These skills and qualities are vital for accurately assisting with policy management, developing client relationships, and gaining valuable industry experience.

What is the difference between Life Insurance Intern vs Actuarial Intern?

The roles often overlap in industry and work environment, but differ in technical focus and required credentials.

Do insurance companies do internships?

Life insurance companies often offer internships for students interested in insurance, finance, or actuarial work. These internships typically provide hands-on experience in underwriting, claims, or sales and may require relevant coursework or certifications. They are usually seasonal or summer programs designed to develop industry skills.

How do I get a job as a life insurance intern?

To get a job as a life insurance intern, candidates typically need to have a high school diploma or be pursuing a college degree in a related field such as finance or business. Applying through company career portals, internships programs, or job boards, and demonstrating strong communication and analytical skills, can improve chances.
