Role Summary

In this role, the Staff LiDAR System Engineer will evaluate and develop automotive LiDAR technologies and products to support Rivian’s autonomy platform and features for future products.
The LiDAR system engineer would have a comprehensive understanding of LiDAR technologies, key aspects of LiDAR system design, characterization, validation and related data analysis and programming.


Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with internal architecture, hardware and software teams to drive the specifications of autonomy
    LiDARs.
  • Evaluate and characterize LiDAR technologies and products to support Rivian’s autonomy products
  • Define and work on prototype modules/samples and perform lab/field tests to validate LiDAR module
    performance against the specifications
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet system level targets

Qualifications
  • MS or Ph.D degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics or related field
  • 5+ years of hands-on experiences in the development, characterization and testing of optoelectrical systems or optical sensing systems and key components. LiDAR or depth sensor R&D experiences preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of semiconductor lasers and device physics
  • Good understanding of the optical, electrical, mechanical and thermal aspects of system design
  • Proficient in scripting for data analysis and test automation (Python preferred)
  • Working knowledge of C programming for embedded systems prototyping

Desirable to have:

  • Experience in full lifecycle of automotive sensor or electronics development and production
  • Experience in LiDAR application, system integration and perception
  • Ability to work under time pressure
  • Attention to details
  • Effectiveness in communication and documentation
  • Ability to work independently and on your own initiative

Pay Disclosure

Pay Range: The salary range for this role is $186,000 - $232,000 annually for Bay Area based applicants. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, and organizational needs. The successful candidate may be eligible for annual performance bonus and equity awards.


Benefits: We offer a comprehensive package of benefits for full-time and part-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26, including but not limited to paid vacation, paid sick leave, and a competitive portfolio of insurance benefits including life, medical, dental, vision, short-term disability insurance, and long-term disability insurance to eligible employees. Full-time employee coverage is effective on their first day of employment. Part-time employee coverage is effective the first of the month following 90 days of employment.
