Licensed Embalmer  - Greenback Location


East Lawn is seeking a skilled, professional, and compassionate Embalmer to join our Care Center team. As one of the premier funeral service providers in the Sacramento region, East Lawn is committed to serving families with respect, care, and excellence.

Position Summary 

The Embalmer is responsible for the respectful care, preparation, disinfection, preservation, restoration, and handling of human remains in accordance with East Lawn standards, family instructions, applicable laws and regulations, and professional embalming practices. 


This position performs embalming and preparation-room duties, maintains accurate documentation, follows required safety procedures, and supports the Care Center's service needs for East Lawn's mortuary locations. 



Requirements

 Key Responsibilities 

  • Perform embalming, disinfection, preservation, restoration, dressing, casketing, cosmetology, and other preparation-room duties in accordance with professional standards, family instructions, East Lawn procedures, and applicable laws and regulations. 
  • Coordinate with the Care Center Manager to complete embalming and preparation for East Lawn's mortuary locations. 
  • Verify identification of human remains and maintain required chain-of-custody procedures throughout embalming, preparation, cremation, transportation, and release processes. 
  • Assist with the respectful receiving, placement, movement, and release of human remains within the Care Center, refrigeration areas, preparation areas, and crematory locations. 
  • Communicate professionally with the Care Center Manager, funeral arrangers, funeral directors, crematory staff, and mortuary locations regarding case status, preparation needs, service timing, special instructions, and family requests. 
  • Accurately complete embalming reports, preparation records, cremation-related documentation, identification records, authorizations, and other required paperwork. 
  • Maintain the preparation room, equipment, instruments, supplies, and work areas in a clean, sanitary, organized, and properly maintained condition. 
  • Receive, stock, organize, and monitor supplies, including caskets, embalming fluids, preparation-room supplies, personal protective equipment, forms, and pre-printed materials. 
  • Inspect preparation-room equipment and promptly report repair, safety, sanitation, or maintenance concerns. 
  • Safely operate preparation-room equipment, including lifts, embalming machines, and other tools and equipment required for the position. 
  • Wear and properly use required personal protective equipment and follow safety procedures related to bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, formaldehyde/formalin, infection control, lifting, transfers, crematory operations, and preparation-room activities. 
  • Perform cremations at East Lawn crematory locations, including required preparation, documentation, identification verification, and chain-of-custody procedures, in accordance with company policy, safety standards, authorization requirements, and applicable regulatory requirements. 
  • Provide removal and transportation of human remains as needed and in accordance with East Lawn procedures. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications 

  • Qualifications will include required California licensure

  • A valid driver's license 
  • An acceptable driving record 
  • The ability to meet the essential functions of the position
