Job description

Job Title: Circulation Desk Student Assistant - Evenings/Weekends

Department: HPU Kahn Law Library

Supervisor: Sola Babatunde

Starting Rate of Pay: $9.00/hour

Length of Time: Eligible for rehire on a semester basis.

Department Description

HPU Kahn Law Library provides the HPU Kahn Law School and HPU community with resources for teaching and research. The student assistant will gain valuable experience in customer service and will develop valuable research skills.

Job Description

The principal role of the Circulation Desk Assistant is to provide excellent customer service to HPU Kahn Law Library patrons by answering basic directional, research, computer or technical-related questions, checking materials in and out for patrons, and performing other duties associated with the running of a library. The law library is a professional environment; business casual dress is required. A courteous demeanor is also always required.

Job Hours and Location

The library will ideally be staffed Monday-Friday 7am to 10 pm, Saturday 10 am to 6 pm, and Sunday 2 pm to 6 pm. This posting is for students interested in working evening shifts, between 5pm and 10pm, and/or all or part of Saturday or Sunday hours. Work hours may vary based on the job requirements; however, the total number of hours a student employee may work per week is 20 hours. This position requires scheduled shifts totaling at least ten hours.

The candidate will perform most of the job duties in the law library, which is located on the third floor of the Kenneth F. Kahn School of Law building (along Qubein Avenue, past Congdon and the new dental school). Occasionally, the candidate may be required to deliver or retrieve library materials from other parts of campus.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS

  • Grade point average of 3.0 or above is preferred. A minimum of one year of college education is preferred. Work Study status is preferred. Prior customer service experience is also preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively is required.
  • Strong organizational skills are required.
  • Willingness to visit other campus locations to deliver or retrieve library materials is required.
  • Ability to sit for extended period is required.
  • Ability to handle library materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop to retrieve or shelve library materials is required.
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds of library material and push book carts weighing up to 200 pounds is required.
