What do library workers do?

Library workers assist patrons in finding and borrowing materials, organize and maintain collections, and help with research and technology use. They may also plan educational programs, manage digital resources, and support community events. The specific duties depend on the role, such as librarian, library assistant, or technician, but all focus on making information accessible to the public.

What qualifications do I need to get a job in a library?

Different library jobs have varying qualifications. To become a librarian, you need a master’s degree in either library science or information studies. This is important if you work with students in an academic setting. You also need some research experience and a strong awareness of research procedures and tools. Library technicians and assistants need to have a high school diploma or a GED certificate and strong administrative skills. If you are seeking a job in library computer support, you need at least a bachelor’s degree in information technologies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a librarian, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Librarian, you typically need a Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS or MLIS), strong research skills, and organizational abilities. Familiarity with library management systems, digital archives, and cataloguing tools like MARC or Dewey Decimal Classification is essential. Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills help librarians engage diverse patrons and collaborate with colleagues. These competencies ensure effective resource management, support lifelong learning, and enhance community access to information.

What are some common challenges faced by library staff when adapting to digital resources and technology?

Library staff often encounter challenges such as staying current with rapidly evolving digital platforms, assisting patrons with varying levels of tech literacy, and integrating new technologies with existing catalog systems. Balancing traditional library services with digital resource management requires ongoing training and flexibility. However, many libraries provide professional development opportunities and foster a supportive team environment to help staff successfully navigate these changes.

Job description

ABOUT ENGINEERED PRODUCTS
At Engineered Products, we’re focused on one thing, maximizing space. We’ve provided material handling and storage solutions to warehouses just like yours for over half a century. And while our solutions maximize space and operational capabilities, they also minimize costs. Every inch and every dime is optimized at Engineered Products. With over 70 years of experience under our belts, we are confident we can develop innovative, efficient designs that support customer goals. Whether it’s improving current layouts, designing custom storage systems, or supporting new facility builds from the ground up, we pride ourselves on delivering precise, customer-specific solutions that meet both design intent and budget.
POSITION SUMMARY
Position: CAD Drafter
Reports to: Engineering Manager
Location: Greenville, SC

The CAD Drafter supports the Design Engineering team by converting engineering concepts, marked-up drawings, sketches, and established designs into accurate, production-ready documentation using Autodesk Inventor. This role is responsible for producing high-quality engineering documentation, maintaining drawing standards, supporting product releases, and working collaboratively with Engineering and Manufacturing to deliver accurate documentation that supports efficient production.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Create and revise Autodesk Inventor parts, assemblies, weldments, sheet-metal models, and detailed manufacturing drawings from Design Engineer direction.
  • Convert approved engineering concepts, redlines, sketches, and legacy drawings into complete production documentation.
  • Prepare fabrication, assembly, installation, and detail drawings with dimensions, tolerances, notes, weld symbols, and material callouts.
  • Create and maintain accurate Bills of Material (BOMs), parts lists, drawing references, and supporting engineering records.
  • Process drawing revisions, Engineering Change Orders, and routine design updates while maintaining revision control.
  • Update existing products and standard designs without changing engineering intent unless directed by a Design Engineer.
  • Perform drawing self-checks for completeness, dimensional consistency, manufacturability, and compliance with company drafting standards.
  • Build and maintain standard templates, title blocks, drawing styles, Inventor libraries, and reusable components to reduce repeat engineering effort.
  • Coordinate with Design Engineers and Manufacturing to resolve drawing discrepancies and clarify documentation requirements.
  • Support drawing release, file organization, archiving, and Autodesk Vault/PDM workflows where applicable.
  • Manage assigned drafting priorities and communicate schedule risks before they affect production or project commitments.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Autodesk Inventor experience is required; candidates must be able to independently create and revise parts, assemblies, and production drawings.
  • Two or more years of mechanical CAD drafting or detailing experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, material-handling, or similar environment.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD for reviewing and updating 2D layouts and legacy drawings.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, dimensions, tolerances, weld symbols, Bills of Material, and engineering markups.
  • Experience producing drawings for fabricated steel, weldments, sheet metal, or mechanical assemblies.
  • Strong attention to detail, file organization, and revision discipline.
  • Ability to follow engineering direction, established standards, and defined approval processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments in a deadline-driven engineering and manufacturing environment.
EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING
  • Associate degree, technical diploma, or certificate in drafting, mechanical design, engineering technology, or a related field.
  • Experience with Autodesk Vault or another PDM/document-control system.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP item setup, BOM entry, or engineering release processes.
  • Familiarity with material-handling systems, storage products, structural steel fabrication, or custom industrial equipment.
  • Experience creating configurable models, iParts/iAssemblies, design libraries, or other CAD automation tools.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position operates primarily in an office environment with regular interaction with the Engineering and Manufacturing teams. The role requires extended periods of computer-based CAD work, sustained attention to detail, and occasional movement through office and production areas. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals to perform the essential functions of the position.
