Job description

Description Enriching the library experience for our customers, the Youth Services Librarian plans and presents developmentally appropriate library programming for children, tweens, and teens. Provides community outreach that connects library customers to information, resources and services. The library professional delivers information services (reference and readers advisory) to customers, using reference research technology and tools.

Promotes and delivers early literacy training and mentoring for parents, and caregivers. **Salary will be determined depending on qualifications of candidates who exceed the minimum requirements as outlined within the job description. **Additional compensation based on licensure.

Essential Functions Note: These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position. Initiates, plans and presents developmentally appropriate literacy focused programs for children, tweens and teens.

Programs include but are not limited to early literacy story time, summer reading programs, teen library councils, teen programs, special events, chess, Maker, and reading clubs, school and community outreach and library tours. Participates in youth materials selection and deselection as required. Performs reference assistance, reader's advisory and information service for children, teens and adults.

Performs professional librarian work using analytical, organizational, and communicative skills to assist people in finding information and using it effectively for educational, professional, and recreational use. Participates in system-wide Youth Services team meetings. Takes a leadership role in advocating and supporting services for youth in a Branch Library.

Attends professional library conferences, seminars, and network committees; reads children's and young adult literature, professional literature. Coordinates daily activities of teen volunteers, as assigned. Prepares and submits regular and special statistical and other reports, as requested.

Serves as a liaison and provides outreach to public schools in support of the library and school partnership. May work as Librarian-in-charge of a branch library in the absence of Regional Branch Manager or Assistant Branch Manager. Additional Duties: In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.

Minimum Qualifications Master's Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited college or university, or active enrollment in an MLS program. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License. A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Additional Requirements Ability to communicate library mission, services, and resources to the public; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships; use teamwork skills; provide high quality customer service; contribute to a positive environment for patrons and staff. Thorough knowledge of library services, print, non-print and electronic resources available from a wide number of sources, including publishers, the Internet, library and vendor-based systems. Ability to adopt, and facilitate new technologies, and social media, as related to providing library services for children and teens.

Considerable knowledge of project management practices. As assigned, participates in system-wide projects working collaboratively with project partners. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
