Job description

East Grand Forks School District is seeking applicants for a Library Paraprofessional
East Grand Forks, MN is a city with a population of approximately 8,500 and located in the heart of the Red River Valley in Northwest Minnesota. It borders Grand Forks, ND and is very close to the University of North Dakota and Northland Community and Technical College. The district's K-12 enrollment is approximately 1,900 students as well as a thriving preschool program. The district has four separate school buildings housing grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12.
Terms:
Compensation $18.06/hour (must be highly qualified per federal law - SEE below)
Compensation and Benefits per the Paraprofessional Master Agreement
Qualifications:
-High School Diploma or its equivalent AND
Applicant MUST have one the following before they can begin working per federal law.
-At least two years of college credits (usually 60 hours in earned in MN) through an accredited institution of higher education;
-An Associates Degree or Higher from an accredited institution of higher education;
-A passing score on the MN ParaPro Assessment (460);
-A passing score on both of the ParaEducator Assessments 65% for Instructional Support and 70% for the Knowledge and Application test

Applicant must attend District-Assigned professional development.
Applicant must complete the PCA/CFSS training and exam on-line.
Applicant MUST demonstrate proficiency in the English Language.

Basic Function of the Position: 
East Grand Forks Public Schools is seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and student-centered Library Paraprofessional to lead the library program at New Heights Elementary, serving students in Pre-K through Grade 2. This unique position offers the opportunity to create a welcoming, engaging library environment where young learners develop a lifelong love of reading and discovery.


The Library Paraprofessional will independently manage the daily operations of the school library while collaborating with classroom teachers to support student learning. Although this position functions independently, the successful candidate will receive training, onboarding, and ongoing support from district staff.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working with young children, thrives in an organized environment, is creative in promoting literacy, and is excited to make the library the heart of the school.


Job Description:
Assisting students and staff in locating books, digital resources, and other library materials.

  • Manage the daily operations of the elementary library.
  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and engaging library environment that encourages curiosity and a love of reading.
  • Check library materials in and out and assist students and staff with locating resources.
  • Shelve, organize, inventory, and maintain the library collection.
  • Process new books and materials using the district's library management system.
  • Assist with collection development by recommending books and resources that support curriculum and student interests.
  • Create attractive book displays and literacy-focused activities that promote reading throughout the school year.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support classroom instruction and literacy initiatives.
  • Teach students basic library skills, including book care, organization, and responsible library use.
  • Maintain accurate library records and assist with ordering books and supplies.
  • Supervise students independently during scheduled library classes and while using the library.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that support the success of the library program.
