Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Library Student Assistant for Digitization supports the preservation and accessibility of library materials through scanning, metadata entry, and digital file management. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented student interested in archives, digital humanities, information science, or history.
  • Digitize historical and archival materials including microfilm, video content, slides, etc. using flatbed and microfilm scanners
  • Perform quality control checks on scanned images for clarity, accuracy, and file format standards
  • Create and edit metadata following library guidelines to ensure discoverability in digital repositories
  • Organize and maintain digital files using proper naming conventions and directory structures
  • Handle fragile and rare materials with care and attention to preservation protocols
  • Assist with preparing items for digitization (e.g., organizing, numbering, rehousing)
  • Use digitization software as trained
  • Document digitization processes and report progress regularly
  • Collaborate with librarians and archivists on digital exhibit or online content projects as needed
  • Complete other library assistant duties (shelving, shelf-reading, tidying) as required

Minimum Qualifications
  • Positive attitude, adaptable, and eager to contribute to the library's mission
