Purpose

The Acquisitions and Access Specialist ensures the accurate, efficient, and uninterrupted acquisition, processing, and ongoing access of physical and electronic library resources.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the acquisition, processing, maintenance, preservation, and accessibility of library collections in all formats, including physical and electronic resources. Monitors the full lifecycle of one-time and continuing resource purchases and subscriptions, intervening and troubleshooting as required to ensure accurate and timely order fulfillment. Maintains accurate and up-to-date information on acquisitions and continuing resources in the library's integrated library system (Alma). Refers complex issues to supervisors as needed.

  • Receives, handles, and processes physical library materials to ensure the timely availability of complete holdings, including the selection, collation, handling, and preparation of materials for binding to support the continued integrity and accessibility of library collections. Performs advanced work with package reconciliation and troubleshooting electronic resource access issues.

  • Maintains awareness of emerging technologies, standards, and technical issues relating to the procurement, management, and maintenance of library collections in all formats, including physical and electronic resources.

  • Undertakes project-based work as required to accommodate evolving library priorities and policy or procedural changes.

  • Participates in department meetings. Serves on committees, task forces, and working groups related to departmental responsibilities. Attends training initiatives as directed by the supervisor, unit head, or head of content management.

  • Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma (or GED) and four years of library work experience.

  • Experience with processing purchases in a work setting.

  • Excellent attention to detail and high degree of accuracy in performing tasks.

  • Enthusiasm for delivering high-quality service.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate effectively to both technical and nontechnical users.

  • Ability to be exible with changing work assignments and environments.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • Experience working in an academic library in an Acquisitions, Serials, or Technical Services environment.

  • Experience performing acquisitions functions within a library services platform such as Ex Libris Alma and Primo.

  • Meticulous attention to detail and highly developed organizational skills.

  • Evidence of maintaining current awareness of trends, standards, and ongoing developments in library technical services workows, systems, and platforms.

  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively and build productive partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Experience documenting procedures.

Salary Range

$46,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

  • This position is located in Austin, Texas and requires on-site work.

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.

  • Typical office and library environment.

  • Lifting objects, bending, kneeling, walking, standing.

  • Lifting and moving up to 50 pounds.

Work Shift

Flexible work arrangement available between the hours of 7 a.m. - 6 p.m., Monday-Friday, with up to 2 remote days per week after onboarding period. Tuesdays are mandatory onsite days.
