Job description

Job Purpose Within this role, the candidate will promote ACPL's values and mission while following established policies and procedures. The purpose of this position is to serve the informational, reference, and reading needs of library patrons of all ages at ACPL and will be expected to perform any and all routine tasks necessary to the operation of the library system. This position is full-time, 40 hours per week, and a benefited position.

While most hours are Monday - Friday, one weekend a month and one evening a week are required. The best candidate will possess a strong commitment to providing customer-focused service for a positive library experience and to relate tactfully and courteously with a wide range of diverse patrons and community members. Responsibilities Promote ACPL's values and mission.

Follow and enforce established library policies and procedures. Assist with maintaining and weeding library collections. Create promotional material for programs and services offered by the department.

Assist patrons through reference interactions, reader advisory inquires and in the use of technology, downloadable and online resources. Troubleshoot minor technology related issues, keeping management aware of issue. Maintains knowledge of current trends and practices of adult services and public libraries in general by attending webinars, workshops, conferences and through professional reading.

Make new library cards for patrons. Check materials in and out on patron accounts, empty book returns. Assist patrons with the Self Check out.

Answer phones and route calls to appropriate staff. Create original and eye-catching displays. Maintain library collection with emphasis on damage and repairs.

Assist with opening and closing the library. Plans, prepares and presents programs and activities to groups of children under the guidance of the Children's Services Team Lead and may be called upon to assist with other programming. During a storytelling program, read stories aloud with appropriate expression/inflection, sing songs and use props.

Actively engages the public during community programs. Possess a willingness to learn about local community happenings and current trends in libraries. Experience working with children in a formal setting is required.

Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Associate's degree and previous library experience required. One year of customer service experience required.

Flexibility in scheduling is required Preferred Qualifications Bilingual (Spanish) is preferred Skills & Abilities Strong customer service orientation with the ability to provide respectful, equitable assistance to patrons of all backgrounds. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, internet searching, and social media platforms. Ability to learn and apply library-specific technology, including ILS systems and electronic resources. Creativity in program planning, display design, and patron engagement.

Strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and accountability. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; bend, reach, squat, and lift up to 40 lbs.

Ability to push/pull loaded book carts and access materials on high and low shelves.
