Job Description Summary

Fox Valley Technical College is establishing a pool of qualified candidates for the Teaching and Learning Center position of Study Group Facilitator. This position is responsible for the delivery of tutoring services, to help students enhance their mastery of concepts and academic skills in specific subject areas. Subject areas include Reading and Study Skills, Writing, Math, Statistics, Anatomy & Physiology, Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Physics, Nursing, Electromechanical, Veterinary Technician, Accounting, Microsoft Suite, ELL, GED, and Adaptive Technology.
$15.00 - $20.00 per hour based on degree attained.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Help students enhance their mastery of concepts and academic skills in specific subject areas
  • Facilitate walk-in or one-on-one study sessions
  • Facilitate Small Intensive Study Groups (ISG)s for selected classes
  • Coach tutees in study skills, note taking, organization and time management
  • Be a source of encouragement and support
  • Comply with the Fox Valley Technical College Student Code of Conduct (http://www.fvtc.edu/public/content.aspx?ID=1911&PID=20) and the National Tutoring Association Code of Ethics (http://www.ntatutor.com/code_of_ethics.htm)
  • Maintain confidentiality and exhibit professional behavior at all times
  • Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions for payroll and program requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related and appropriate field is preferred.(Based on experience and expertise, an individual with an Associate Degree or equivalent may be considered.)
  • Competency in the courses to be tutoring, demonstrated by a final grade of "B" or higher OR currently enrolled in the course and recommended by the course instructor.
  • A written recommendation from a Fox Valley Technical College instructor as appropriate.
  • Desire to help and encourage students with diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, academic ability, and adult students of all ages.

  • Success and commitment as a team player, including the ability to engage in win-win thinking and to foster consensus.

  • Proficiency in computer use and applications which support tutoring.
