Position Summary
The Maintenance Unit Supervisor is a salaried leadership role responsible for overseeing a union crew of electricians and mechanics, ensuring operational safety, reliability, quality, and cost-effectiveness. Reporting to the Area Technical Leader, this role provides technical troubleshooting support, root cause analysis, and crew leadership while balancing productivity, recovery, and delivery performance.
This position involves supervising union employees on 12-hour rotating shifts (day and night) within established departmental schedules.
Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and guide mechanical crafts, providing technical direction for maintenance activities.
  • Lead both planned and unplanned maintenance to achieve department performance goals.
  • Foster a safe and compliant work environment; conduct safety discussions and job-specific safety reviews.
  • Allocate and assign work fairly, prioritizing based on critical business needs.
  • Manage crew arrangements, including scheduling for planned/unplanned absences and vacation coverage.
  • Apply root cause analysis and rapid problem-solving techniques to maintain or restore production.
  • Collaborate with craftspeople, peers, and management to drive results and resolve conflicts.
  • Ensure operational performance in safety, quality, quantity, timeliness, and recovery.
  • Support training and technical skill development of crew members.
Qualifications
Required:
  • High School diploma or GED (accredited institution).
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on maintenance experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience with direct reports.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. (visa sponsorship not available).

Preferred:
  • Supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with union environments and labor agreements.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles (ABS).
